2.The Origin of Chinese New Year
The Chinese New Year is now popularly known as the Spring Festival because it starts from the Begining of Spring (the first of the twenty-four terms in coodination with the changes of Nature). Its origin is too old to be traced. Several explanations are hanging around. All agree, however, that the word Nian, which in modern Chinese solely means "year", was originally the name of a monster beast that started to prey on people the night before the beginning of a new year.
One legend goes that the beast Nian had a very big mouth that would swallow a great many people with one bite. People were very scared. One day, an old man came to their rescue, offering to sube Nian. To Nian he said, "I hear say that you are very capable, but can you swallow the other beasts of prey on earth instead of people who are by no means of your worthy opponents?" So, it did swallow many of the beasts of prey on earth that also harrassed people and their domestic animals from time to time.
After that, the old man disappeared riding the beast Nian. He turned out to be an immortal god. Now that Nian is gone and other beasts of prey are also scared into forests, people begin to enjoy their peaceful life. Before the old man left, he had told people to put up red paper decorations on their windows and doors at each year's end to scare away Nian in case it sneaked back again, because red is the color the beast feared the most.
From then on, the tradition of observing the conquest of Nian is carried on from generation to generation. The term "Guo Nian", which may mean "Survive the Nian" becomes today "Celebrate the (New) Year" as the word "guo" in Chinese having both the meaning of "pass-over" and "observe". The custom of putting up red paper and firing fire-crackers to scare away Nian should it have a chance to run loose is still around. However, people today have long forgotten why they are doing all this, except that they feel the color and the sound add to the excitement of the celebration
3.The Spring Festival is the most important festival for the Chinese people and is when all family members get together, just like Christmas in the West. All people living away from home go back, becoming the busiest time for transportation systems of about half a month from the Spring Festival. Airports, railway stations and long-distance bus stations are crowded with home returnees.
Strictly speaking, the Spring Festival starts every year in the early days of the 12th lunar month and will last till the mid 1st lunar month of the next year. Of them, the most important days are Spring Festival Eve and the first three days. The Chinese government now stipulates people have seven days off for the Chinese Lunar New Year.
Many customs accompany the Spring Festival. Some are still followed today, but others have weakened.
On the 8th day of the 12th lunar month, many families make laba porridge, a delicious kind of porridge made with glutinous rice, millet, seeds of Job's tears, jujube berries, lotus seeds, beans, longan and gingko.
The 23rd day of the 12th lunar month is called Preliminary Eve. At this time, people offer sacrifice to the kitchen god. Now however, most families make delicious food to enjoy themselves.
After the Preliminary Eve, people begin preparing for the coming New Year. This is called "Seeing the New Year in".
Store owners are busy then as everybody goes out to purchase necessities for the New Year. Materials not only include edible oil, rice, flour, chicken, ck, fish and meat, but also fruit, candies and kinds of nuts. What's more, various decorations, new clothes and shoes for the children as well as gifts for the elderly, friends and relatives, are all on the list of purchasing.
Before the New Year comes, the people completely clean the indoors and outdoors of their homes as well as their clothes, bedclothes and all their utensils.
Then people begin decorating their clean rooms featuring an atmosphere of rejoicing and festivity. All the door panels will be pasted with Spring Festival couplets, highlighting Chinese calligraphy with black characters on red paper. The content varies from house owners' wishes for a bright future to good luck for the New Year. Also, pictures of the god of doors and wealth will be posted on front doors to ward off evil spirits and welcome peace and abundance.
The Chinese character "fu" (meaning blessing or happiness) is a must. Red paper-cuttings can be seen on window glass and brightly colored New Year paintings with auspicious meanings may be put on the wall.
People attach great importance to Spring Festival Eve. At that time, all family members eat dinner together. The meal is more luxurious than usual. Dishes such as chicken, fish and bean curd cannot be excluded, for in Chinese, their pronunciations, respectively "ji", "yu" and "doufu," mean auspiciousness, abundance and richness. After the dinner, the whole family will sit together, chatting and watching TV. In recent years, the Spring Festival party broadcast on China Central Television Station (CCTV) is essential entertainment for the Chinese both at home and abroad. According to custom, each family will stay up to see the New Year in.
Waking up on New Year, everybody dresses up. First they extend greetings to their parents. Then each child will get money as a New Year gift, wrapped up in red paper. People in northern China will eat jiaozi, or mplings, for breakfast, as they think "jiaozi" in sound means "bidding farewell to the old and ushering in the new". Also, the shape of the mpling is like gold ingot from ancient China. So people eat them and wish for money and treasure.
Southern Chinese eat niangao (New Year cake made of glutinous rice flour) on this occasion, because as a homophone, niangao means "higher and higher, one year after another." The first five days after the Spring Festival are a good time for relatives, friends, and classmates as well as colleagues to exchange greetings, gifts and chat leisurely.
Burning fireworks was once the most typical custom on the Spring Festival. People thought the spluttering sound could help drive away evil spirits. However, such an activity was completely or partially forbidden in big cities once the government took security, noise and pollution factors into consideration. As a replacement, some buy tapes with firecracker sounds to listen to, some break little balloons to get the sound too, while others buy firecracker handicrafts to hang in the living room.
The lively atmosphere not only fills every household, but permeates to streets and lanes. A series of activities such as lion dancing, dragon lantern dancing, lantern festivals and temple fairs will be held for days. The Spring Festival then comes to an end when the Lantern Festival is finished.
China has 56 ethnic groups. Minorities celebrate their Spring Festival almost the same day as the Han people, and they have different customs.

This holiday is my best busy holiday for I am learning English, computer and word and I fall in the weekend exam. Many times I want to take today off, but my mother said to me:“go on, you must belive that you can do it.” So I have to try. Now my English is better than 2months ago. I must thanks my mother, she is good for me. Practices makes perfect.
How happy I am. Yesterday I finished all the work very quick, so I have a lot of time to do myself. Sometimes finish work early is a good thing, we can have more interests to do the next work. Because of this, I write English dairy eight in the morning. But I wrote it in the evening in the pass day. Everyone, if you can finish the work quickly, not lazy, just try your best.
Today i went to the museum.I met some robots. I think I am also be able to have a robot in many years.I think they can help me do some dishes .They also can help with my homework.A good robot can make me happy.When i am upset ,they can tell jokes for me.I will have more free time to have a relax.
Today i took the bus to the park. Some people were waiting for the bus at the bus stop.When a young girl came,she spat a gum on the ground While she was waiting,she herself stepped on the gum.The gum stuck to one of her foot.When the bus came , she got on the bus. Then she discovered the gum stuck her foot all the time.
Today,I"m going shopping with my mother, We buy some
apples bananas and a big watermelon.I"m buying some new books ,because I like reading interesting books very much.Then we get home.I"m very happy!
Oh, my god. I finish this dairy at 12:00 in the night. I will write thirty passages three days later. It’s a good beginning. I remembered the word: practices makes perfect. Today I began to learn “Li Yang” English. At first I was very afraid because my English is not very well. But after ten minutes, I was not afraid it, the lesson is not as hard as I think. Today I have to do much housework. First wash the clothes , then cook the meal、tidy the room。In the afternoon, I met a friend named dengyuming. We played computer game all the afternoon.
When all the things have been finished, I only want to go to sleep because it is ten now. But when I began to sleep, I remembered that the computer wasn’t close. So I could only stand up and close it. Then I was fall asleep. Now, I hope everything goes well!

Today I go to shopping with my friend. When we are walking in the street, a girl comes to us, and says to us: Could you help me? We feel amazed. Then the girl tells us she was walking with her mother just before, but she does not know where is her mother now. She looks like very anxious, and wears tear in her eyes. So we believe she at last. Besides, we lend her ten yuan to take a tax to home. We feel so good, because we can help someone. But a unacceptable matter is happen at last. When we are ready go back home, come out from a shop, we see a girl whom we meet before are saying the same word to another people.
I didn't get up until my brother came.Because last nighr I fell asleep too late.Last night,I saw the movie-"Bank of brother",so I fell asleep at12:40. My brother came here and played with me.We plaued the computer games from 9:30 to 11:30.We were very happy.After lunch,we watched TV.Aboule 3:00,we went to play basketball to playground.From 3:30 to 5:30.OH!I am very very tired now!I wanted to have a good rest.
Yesterday I had a cold , I just lay down and rest in bed . Today is morning , his mother take he to hospital to see a doctor . The doctor look over and gave some medicine . Then I have some medicine . At night I am better than yesterday . I can do my home work .
At last,I can keep a dog.It is from my uncle.It is white with black spots.I name it Angel.I walk it for about 15 minutes after supper everyday.I give it a bath every three days.I must keep it clean,or Mother says I can't keep it.

But train travel also has its advantages. 乘飞机旅行比坐火车旅行有两大优点。，可以节约时间。从北京到广州乘飞机只用两个小时，而坐火车需要二十四个小时甚至更多。第二，乘飞机更舒适。飞机飞得很平稳，我们可以休息得很好；而火车有时很拥挤，而且要坐好长时间，容易疲劳。但是坐火车旅行也有它的优点。例如，坐火车旅行只花250元而乘飞机则需900元。除此之外，透过火车的窗口，我们可以欣赏郑州、武汉和长沙等大城市的风光。

In the open times, if you want to do business with foreigners, you must English because most of them speak and write in English, English is one of the working languages at international meetings, Today, most of valuable books are written inEnglish, If you know mush English, you will read newspapers and magazines in English and learn a lot of knowledge about interaction better. You also can do What you should do for the world peace.
English is very important to us, but many students don't know why ;hey should learn it. I hope that all the students should pay more attention to English study and use it freely.

Lighten The Burden On Students
I am very disappointed not to be able to go to see a film with my friends, to play my favorite musical instrument, or to watch TV with my family in the evening. I'm tired of doing much homework, get bored at taking so many exams, and lose interest in studying.
Teachers, please get rid of homework and examinations. Examinations are nothing but anxiety-makers. Homework is nothing but interest-killers.
Teachers, we can learn more outside the classroom. Classroom gives us limited kinds of information. We can only learn some dead knowledge from the books.Teachers, please set us free, and let us learn more outside the classroom from the environment, from TV, from private study or from our friends.

Profound changes have taken place in people's lives in the past 20 years.
In the past, people kept in touch with relatives or friends mainly by sending letters . And sometimes they can even communicate with each other by asking someone to send the messages. They can only listen to the radio for news and see other program on TV.
In the recent time, some families are wealthy enough to send their children to school in their own cars. More and more people live in big and bright apartments with several rooms.
In a word , people have live a better life than before.
Mother's Love
Mother's love is the greatest in the world.
One evening, it was raining heavily and it was very dark outside. Suddenly I got a terrible headache. My mother felt my head and found that I had a high fever. She was so worried that she took me on the back to the nearby hospital immediately.
At that time, it was about midnight and it was raining even harder. I looked down at my mother and found that she was walking hard in the heavy rain. I couldn't keep my tears. I said I could walk all by myself, but she insisted. Actually she found I could hardly stand, she took me on the back went on walking quickly. When we got to the hospital, she was out of breath. The doctor looked me over carefully and let me take some hot water and some medicine.
On the way home, I felt a little better. I said to my mother that could walk slowly by myself. But mother took me on the back without a word. When we got home, mother fell to the floor. She was too tired! The next day I felt much better, but mother got ill.
My Favorite Animal
If you ask me what my favorite animal is. I can tell you pandas are my favorite. I like the pandas not only because they are one of the China's treasures, but also because they look cute.
Pandas look fat and hairy. They have only two colors: white and black. The panda's face is back and stomach is all white. However their eyes, nose, legs and arms are all black. Bamboos are pandas’ favorite food. They will use their paws and they chew the bamboo extremely slowly with their mouth.
There are two pandas called Tuantuan and Yuanyuan. They will be sent to Taiwan as the present for the people in Taiwan.
