11月底，欧洲各国遭受暴风雪和寒流袭击，从英国到波兰，从德国到希腊，都不同程度地受到突然降温的影响。大雪造成交通混乱、电力中断、学校关闭，有人在严寒中冻死……为什么欧洲的冬天越来越冷呢？
欧洲今年冬天特别冷
在德国人口最多的北威州，降雪厚度最高达20厘米，机场被迫关闭。机场发言人托尔斯滕·希尔曼对记者说：“在这个机场工作了11年，我想不起过去曾发生过类似的事情。”在法国，大雪造成部分公路堵塞，某些地段拥堵车流达到约50公里长。严寒使3名法国人冻死街头，目前政府已宣布进入2级警备状态。英国有关部门也发出警告，要人们做好准备，“迎接数十年来最冷的冬天”。

天气寒冷事出有因
德国气候变化研究所的斯坦芬·拉姆斯道夫教授告诉记者，欧洲城市的冬季气温能普遍高于同纬度其他地区9摄氏度—18摄氏度，这要归功于北大西洋暖流。而欧洲冬天越来越冷，也是由于大西洋洋流循环出了问题。

可如今，科学家发现给欧洲冬季带来温暖的大西洋洋流流速正在减慢。11月30日，英国南安普敦国家海洋学中心科学家哈里·布莱登在《科学》杂志上发表了自己的研究成果：2004年，由他领导的研究小组在巴哈马群岛和加那利群岛间沿北纬25度进行取样调查，检测水的盐分和密度。并把检测数据与1957年、1981年、1992年和1998年的记录进行了比较，结果发现，自1957年来，深海的冷水回流速度显著地下降了，尤其是自1992年以来下降速度更快，如今，北大西洋暖流的流速已经比50年前下降了31％。

据英国气象办公室哈德利中心的科学家说，大西洋洋流发生变化的原因是由于人类导致的温室效应让流向大西洋的淡水量增加。全球气候变暖，导致格陵兰岛的冰盖和北极的冰雪融化速度加快，大量的淡水注入北大西洋。而水的下沉速度与含盐量和密度有关，盐分多密度大，水的下沉速度就快。淡水比含有盐分的海水要轻而且密度也低，即使是冷水也不会沉得太深，所以在北大西洋中融化的冰水下沉速度急剧下降，大量淡水积聚在洋面上，导致从大西洋环流中分出的那股洋流缺乏向北运动的动力，速度减慢，甚至最终会停止。
