1971年10月14日《纽约邮报》刊登了一篇小说:长途车上坐着一位沉默不语的男子,在同车游客的盘问下终于开了口。原来他刚从监狱出来,被释放前曾写信给妻子:如果她还爱着他,愿意他回去,就在镇口的老橡树上系一根黄丝带;

Tie a yellow ribbon around the old oak tree》 东尼奥兰多 I'm coming home, I've done my time 我的刑期已满,正要赶回家 Now I've got to know what is and isn't mine If you received my letter Telling you I'd soon be free Then you'll know just what to do 那麼,你知道该怎麼做 If you still want me, if you still want me 如果你还要我的话 Tie a yellow ribbon around the old oak tree It's been three long years 漫长的三年过去了 Do you still want me 你还要我吗? If I don't see a ribbon around the old oak tree I'll stay on the bus, forget about us Put the blame on me 责怪我自己 If I don't see a yellow ribbon around the old oak tree Bus driver, please look for me 司机先生,请帮我看一下 Cause I couldn't bear to see what I might see I'm really still in prison And my love she holds the key Simple yellow ribbon what I need to set me free I've wrote and told her please Now the whole damn bus is cheering And I can't believe I see 我无法相信我所看到的-------- A hundred yellow ribbons around the old oak tree 老橡树上挂满了上百条的黄丝带!

Westlife的Seasons In The Sun
于是,有了这首《Seasons in the Sun》:
Goodbye to you my trusted friend
We ’ve known each other since we were nine or ten
Together we climbed hills and trees
Learned of love and A B C ’s
Skinned our hearts and skinned our knees.
Goodbye my friend it ’s hard to die
When all the birds are singing in the sky
Now that the spring is in the air
Pretty girls are everywhere
Think of me and I ’ll be there
We have joy we had fun
We have seasons in the sun
But the hills that we climb were just seasons
Out of time......
Goodbye Papa please pray for me
I was the black sheep of the family
You tried to teach me right from wrong
Too much wine and too much song
Wonder how I got along.
Goodbye Papa its hard to die
When all the birds are singing in the sky
Now that the spring is in the air
Little children everywhere
When you see them I ’ll be there.
We have joy we had fun
We have seasons in the sun
But the wine and the song like the seasons
Have all gone.
We have joy we had fun
We have seasons in the sun
But the stars we could reach
Were just starfish on the beach.
Goodbye Michelle my little one
You gave me love and helped me find the sun
And every time that I was down
You would always come around
And get my feet back on the ground.
Goodbye Michelle it ’s hard to die
When all the birds are singing in the sky
Now that the spring is in the air
With the flowers everywhere
I wish that we could both be there
We have joy we had fun
We have seasons in the sun
But the hills that we climb were just seasons
Out of time......
We have joy we had fun
We have seasons in the sun
But the wine and the song like the seasons
Have all gone.
All our lives we had fun
We have seasons in the sun
But the stars we could reach
Were just starfish on the beach.
We have joy,we have fun
Westlife版是We had joy,we had fun
Pretty girls are everywhere ,Think of me and I ’ll be there
I wish that we could both be there
Going home
They were going to Florida –three
boys and three girls –and when they
boarded the bus, they were carrying
sandwiches and wine in paper bags,
dreaming of golden beaches and sea
tides as the gray cold of New York
vanished behind them.
As the bus rumbled south, they began to
notice Vingo. He sat in front of them,
dressed in a plain, ill-fitting suit,
never moving, his sty face masking his age. He chewed the inside of his lip a
lot, frozen into some personal cocoon of silence.
Deep into the night, and outside
Washington, the bus pulled into a
roadside restaurant, and everybody got off except Vingo. He sat rooted in his seat, and the young people began to wonder about him, trying to imagine his life:
perhaps he was a sea captain, a runaway
from his wife, an old soldier going home. When they went back to the bus, one
of the girls sat beside him and
introced herself.
“We’re going to Florida,” she said
brightly. “I hear it’s beautiful.”
“It is,” he said quietly, as if
remembering something he had tried to
forget.
“Want some wine?” she said. He smiled
and took ag. He thanked her and
retreated again into his silence. After a while, she went back to the others,
and Vingo nodded in sleep.
In the morning, they awoke another
restaurant, and this time Vingo went in. The girl insisted that he join them. He
seemed very shy, and ordered black
coffee and smoked nervously as the young people chattered about sleeping on
beaches. When they returned to the bus,
the girl sat with Vingo again, and after a while, slowly and painfully, he told his story. He had been in jail in New
York for the past four years, and now he was going home.
“Are you married?”
“I don’t know.”
“You don’t know?” she said.
“Well, when I was in the can I wrote to my wife,” he said. “I told her that I
was going to be away a long time, and
that if she couldn’t stand it, if the
kids kept asking questions, if it hurt too much, well, she could just forget me. I’d understand. Get anew guy, I
said-she’s a wonderful woman, really
something-and forget about me. I told her she didn’t have to write me. And she
didn’t. Not for three and a half years.”
“And you’re going home now, not
knowing?”
“Yeah,” he said shyly. “Well, last
week, when I was sure the parole was
coming through, I wrote her again. There’s a big oak tree just as you come
into town. I told her that if she’d
take me back, she should put a yellow
handkerchief on the tree, and I’d get
off and come home. If she didn’t want
me, forget it--no handkerchief, and
I’d go on through.”
“Wow,” the girl said. “Wow.”
She told the others, and soon all of them were in it, caught up in the approach
of Vingo home town, looking at the
pictures he showed them of his wife and
three children—the woman handsome in a
plain way, the children still unformed
in the cracked, much-handled snapshots.
Now they were 20 miles from the town,
and the young people took over window seats on the right side, waiting for the
approach of the great oak tree. The bus acquired a dark, hushed mood, full of the silence of absence and lost years. Vingo stopped looking, tightening his face
into the ex-con’s mask, as if
fortifying himself against still another disappointment.
Then it was ten miles, and then five. Then, suddenly, all of the young people
were up out of their seats, screaming
and shouting and crying, doing small
dances of exultation. All except Vingo.
Vingo sat there stunned, looking at the
oak tree. It was covered with yellow
handkerchiefs—20 of them, 30—of them,
maybe hundreds, a tree that stood like a banner of welcome billowing in the wind. As the young people shouted, the old
con rose from his seat and made his way
to the front of the bus to go home.

Tie a yellow ribbon around the old oak tree
----- By Tony Orlando & Dawn
I'm comin' home, I've done my time
Now I've got to know what is and isn't mine
If you received my letter telling you I'd soon be free
Then you'll know just what to do
If you still want me
If you still want me
Whoa, tie a yellow ribbon 'round the old oak tree
It's been three long years
Do ya still want me?
If I don't see a ribbon round the old oak tree
I'll stay on the bus
Forget about us
Put the blame on me
If I don't see a yellow ribbon round the old oak tree
Bus driver, please look for me
'cause I couldn't bear to see what I might see
I'm really still in prison
And my love, she holds the key
A simple yellow ribbon's what I need to set me free
I wrote and told her please
Whoa, tie a yellow ribbon round the old oak tree
It's been three long years
Do ya still want me?
If I don't see a ribbon round the old oak tree
I'll stay on the bus
Forget about us
Put the blame on me
If I don't see a yellow ribbon round the old oak tree
Now the whole damned bus is cheerin'
And I can't believe I see
A hundred yellow ribbons round the old oak tree
I'm comin' home
(Tie a ribbon round the old oak tree)
