Little Women
===========
In Little Women, you will meet the March sisters, Meg, Jo, Beth & Amy who live with their mother, Marmee, and their maid Hannah, ring the Civil War. The first half of the novel takes place while their father is away, serving in the war. Each sister has a distinct personality, a reader, an artist, a musician, the quiet one. You will get to know this family in touching little stories of their daily life. Each chapter seems to set up a moral lesson for the reader to learn. We also meet a wonderful set of neighbors, Mr. Laurence and his nephew "Laurie" who quickly find a place as part of the March family.
The second half of the novel, focuses on the girls as they leave their childhood and begin their journey into alt life. Lessons of friendship, family, and love are covered as we join the characters through the ups and downs of life, good times and bad. It seems that Louisa May Alcott used her own family as the basis for the stories in Little Women, basing the character Jo on herself. It is amazing how though the book was written in the late 1800's, so many things about humans remain the same. The foundations of life that are important in friendships, family & love don't change through time, as Alcott has shared with us. This is a book that young and old can read and appreciate。

Reading the old man and the sea

About the author
Ernest Hemingway, one of the greatest American writers in 20th century, is the representative of “lost generation” writer. He was born on July 21, 1899, in Oak Park, Illinois. worked as a reporter after graating from high school in 1917.,amd served as an ambulance driver in the Italian infantry and was wounded just before his 19th birthday. Hospitalized, Hemingway fell in love with an older nurse. In 1954, Hemingway was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. In his life, Hemingway married four times and wrote numerous essays, short stories and novels. The effects of Hemingway's lifelong depressions, illnesses and accidents caught up with him. In July 1961, he committed suicide in Ketchum, Idaho.

About the book
The old man and the sea is one of Hemingway’ most enring works. Told in language of great simplicity and power , it is the story of an old Cuban fisherman ,down on his luck ,and his supreme ordeal ---a relentless , agonizing battle with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream . Here Hemingway recasts , in strikingly contemporary style, the classic theme of courage in the face of defeat , of personal triumph won from loss . Written in 1952 ,this hugely successfully novella confirmed his power and presence in the literary world and played a huge part in his winning the 1954 Nobel Prize for Literature .

About the old man
Santiago is described as a failure by other fishermen in the village for catching no fish for a long time . However, he should be regarded as a hero all his life , when he had played the hand game with the great Negro from Cienfuegos who was the strongest man on the docks ;when he fight with that large marlin ; when he struggle with the sharks . You can find his optimism, confidence, wisdom, perseverance and bravery anywhere . I admire him not only because these but also his regarding these as the things he had to do , the rules he had to obey .

Such a man is really a man , a marvelous man . All the characters of him is worth being learned not only in Hemingway’s times ,but for ever ; not only for a certain kind of man , but for all of us .Let’s always remember his word “But man is not made for defeat,” he said. “A man can be destroyed but not defeated.”

Sense and Sensibility was the first novel Jane Austen published. Though she initially called it Elinor and Marianne, Austen jettisoned both the title and the epistolary mode in which it was originally written, but kept the essential theme: the necessity of finding a workable middle ground between passion and reason. The story revolves around the Dashwood sisters, Elinor and Marianne. Whereas the former is a sensible, rational creature, her younger sister is wildly romantic——a characteristic that offers Austen plenty of scope for both satire and compassion. Commenting on Edward Ferraris, a potential suitor for Elinor's hand, Marianne admits that while she "loves him tenderly," she finds him disappointing as a possible lover for her sister.
Soon however, Marianne meets a man who measures up to her ideal: Mr. Willoughby, a new neighbor. So swept away by passion is Marianne that her behavior begins to border on the scandalous. Then Willoughby abandons her; Meanwhile, Elinor's growing affection for Edward suffers a check when he admits he is secretly engaged to a childhood sweetheart. How each of the sisters reacts to their romantic misfortunes, and the lessons they draw before coming finally to the requisite happy ending forms the heart of the novel. Though Marianne's disregard for social conventions and willingness to consider the world well-lost for love may appeal to modern readers, it is Elinor whom Austen herself most evidently admired; a truly happy marriage, she shows us, exists only where sense and sensibility meet and mix in proper measure.

书虫《远大前程》In this summer holidays, I read a book called < Great Expectations>, it was written by Charles Dickens, one of the most famous English writers. He wrote lots of wonderful novels. This book is one of his compositions.
People always like to compare with their friends. It is a big foible of all the people. If other people have a lot of money, we also want to be rich. If all the people around us are poor , we never mind that we are very poor, too. we will not ashamed because of our folly. This is a social problem.
If we never possess anything, we will not mind we lost some thing. Since we don’ want to be very rich ,we will not feel despond because poor.
The protagonist of this novel is Pip (Handel). His parents died when he was a baby. His sister had brought him up ‘by hand’. His sister married to Joe Gargery, the village blacksmith. They didn’t have much money, and Pip never went to school to study. But he was often very happy .Because all of his friends are like him. It isn’t very unfortunate to them, this is their lives. But by a chance, Pip helped a convict; he gave much food to him. Then he met Miss Havisham, a very strange old woman and she was very rich.

Jane Eyre — A Beautiful Soul
Jane Eyre, is a poor but aspiring, small in body but huge in soul, obscure but self-respecting girl. After we close the covers of the book, after having a long journey of the spirit, Jane Eyre, a marvelous figure, has left us so much to recall and to think:
We remember her goodness: for someone who lost arms and blinded in eyes, for someone who despised her for her ordinariness, and even for someone who had hurt her deeply in the past.

We remember her pursuit of justice. It’s like a companion with the goodness. But still, a virtuous person should promote the goodness on one side and must check the badness on the other side.

We remember her self-respect and the clear situation on equality. In her opinion, everyone is the same at the God’s feet. Though there are differences in status、in property and also in appearance, but all the human being are equal in personality.

We also remember her striving for life, her toughness and her confidence…

When we think of this girl, what she gave us was not a pretty face or a transcendent temperament that make us admire deeply, but a huge charm of her personality.

Actually, she wasn’t pretty, and of course, the ordinary appearance didn’t make others feel good of her, even her own aunt felt disgusted with it. And some others even thought that she was easy to look down on and to tease, so when Miss Ingram met Jane Eyre, she seemed quite contemptuous, for that she was obviously much more prettier than ‘ plain and ugly governess’. But as the little governess had said: ‘Do you think, because I am poor, obscure, plain, and little, I am soulless and heartless? You think wrong!’ This is the idea of equality in Jane Eyre’s mind. God hadn’t given her beauty and wealth, but instead, God gave her a kind mind and a thinking brain. Her idea of equality and self-respect impress us so much and let us feel the power inside her body.

A Brief Summary of the Book” Jane Eyre”

First when I opened this very book, I knew I would love it. I’ve heard so many great stories about Charlotte Bronte and her two great sisters, who were all great women in the history of literature, and Jane Eyre is among one of their masterpieces.
The story happened in the 19th century ring the Victorian period, which took place in the south of England that filled with criticism and depressed of the reality. However, that was also the budding stage of the self-consciousness of women. Jane Eyre was one of them.

The book Jane Eyre reveal the hypocritical of the charities, and carved the ordinary-looking Jane into an lovely woman, who was brave and independent enough to pursue her own freedom and happiness as a disadvantaged group member under such social condition. The whole book divided Jane’s whole life into five stages in chronologic order: Jane's childhood at Gateshead, Jane's ecation at Lowood School, Jane's time as governess at Thornfield Manor, Jane's time with the Rivers family, Jane's reunion with Mr. Rochester, which well introced how came her angular and specific personality.

Everybody should be given a happy childhood for God’s sake, but unfortunately, Jane was not among those lucky ones. Tragedies happened one after another to this poor girl first when she came to this world. In their early years, both of Jane's parents died from typhus, which her father contracted whilst caring for the poor. Then the ten-year-old orphan started his life living with her aunt and her three children at Gateshead, which turned out not a happy cradle from the very beginning. Her aunt, Mrs. Reed, treats her as bad as a witch. Every time when she was not happy, she would vent her anger on small poor Jane and put Jane into a horrible red room where Jane’s uncle died. No matter how hard Jane tried, no mercy was owned. Moreover, bullied by her cousins time after time, she chose to be strong instead of surrender.

Since Mrs. Reed was so hatred to raise Jane, she finally decided to take other’s advice and sent Jane to a charity school, where was a quite important place for Jane that she met the two most important people in her life: Helen Burns and Miss Temple. They really helped her a lot when Jane was shouldered with the accusation of deceitful. But in a short while, her beloved Helen Burns died of typhus like Jane’s parents because of Mr. Brocklehurst's neglection and dishonesty. The only consolation for little Helen is that she died in her best friend Jane’s arms. After her death, Jane became more tough-minded and independent.

In the twinkling of an eye, eight years had passed by. Little Jane had grew up into a well-ecated and graceful girl, who was capable enough to be a governess. Yeah, after two years’ teaching at Lowood School, she was soon employed by Alex Fairfax, who was the housekeeper of Thornfield Manor, as a governess for a lovely French girl Adèle Varens. And here at Thornfield Manor, she first experienced what equality was. Everybody, including her destined future husband Mr. Rochester, also her employer, the owner of the Manor, treated her without prejudice or hostility. She loved this place. The love was so deeply rooted in her heart that she could even feel this place even though she was far away from the Thornfield Mason. As a typical girl of braveness and impavidity, she finally told Mr. Rochester about her love to him. All people of good will have a good result. Mr. Rochester was also fall in love with this special girl first when he met her when he fall of the horse and broke his leg. They decided to get married. Nevertheless it was just the beginning of Jane’s real understanding of the long-lasting mysterious that existing in her mind. The crazy sound was not made by one of their servant, but Mr. Rochester’s insane wife.

All kinds of unexpected things happened one after another so soon, that Jane left Mr. Rochester in a mid-night without telling anyone. And then experiencing begging, teaching in a school, receiving heritage from her uncle, and all these happiness and unhappiness invaded her later life as a rich woman without getting any message of what happened in Thornfield Mason. Is she happy then? Who knows.

After once hearing Mr. Rochester calling her name instinctively, she finally what she really miss and what she exactly want. As a consequence, she went back to Thornfield in neat dress. What came into her eyes was a dead ruined mason without any vigor. What broke her heart most is the moment when she saw her beloved Mr. Rochester, who was half-blind without a hand. Jane eliminate his misgiving of his circumstance and prove him that she would still love him and would like to be him wife and grew old together with him no matter what happened. Ultimately, Jack shall have Jill, all shall be well. Mr. Rochester again processed, and recovered his eyesight little by little. They led a happy life ever after as prince and princess.

When finishing the whole book, I didn’t think I’ve just finish a story but experiencing a era of fighting for freedom, equality, and one’s own happiness. The images of Jane, Mr. Rochester, Helen, and Miss Temple will always rise in my head as the representative of the good spirits in England under that circumstance. To end this brief summary, I’d like to say that people like us, especially those who lived in a perfect harmonious and democratic society should learn from them, not only how to be a better man but also how to be ourselves.

I believe that one of the factors that makes a piece of literature or even a movie a masterpiece is how well the reader can relate to the story. This is definitely a book everyone can relate to.

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is a literary masterpieces, written in 1876 by the famous author Mark Twain. Tom Sawyer is a mischievous young boy who lives in the small town on the Mississippi River called St. Petersburg. The story line is simple, the book reads like a biography or a memoir of a summer in Tom Sawyer's life.

Tom Sawyer seems to be the precursor of and the template for misfit kids such as Dennis the Menace, Malcolm in the Middle, and Calvin and Hobbs. What makes this story great is that Tom Sawyer represents everything that is great about childhood. The book is filled with Tom's adventures playing pirates and war with his friend Joe Harper. Tom has a trusted friend, Huck Finn, who few of the alts approve of. The book is filled with ideas of how the world works, such as how pirates and robbers work, that are so innocent, they could only come from a child. It is a story filled with action, adventure, ingenious ideas, love, and schoolyard politics. The whole story is seemingly a complication of what people did or wish they did ring their childhood.
The book is a little difficult to read at first. Personally, it takes me a little while to get used to the 19th century dialect in the book. Other than referring to persons of African decent in derogatory terms (which I'm sure uses terms even young children already know), the book would be an enjoyable read for people of all ages. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking to feel young again, if just for a few hundred pages.

Tess of the D'urbevilles

yesterday, I read the novel called "Tess of the D'urbevilles". written by a
famous Englishwriter Thomas Hardy.
The novel tells a story about a pretty and good girl called Tess, who lived in a
village in Marlott. To her sadness, when she was seventeen, she was no longer a
pure and untouched girl. She gave birth to a baby, which didn't live long. So
Tess changed from a pure gir l to a grown —up.
Because she was the eldest of the 7 children in the family, she found a job to
support the whole family in a dairy. There she knew Angel and married him. But
unluckily. when Angel knew her sad story, he left her and went to Brazil.Tess
led a hard an d lonely life after that. Later when she knew Angel had retumed
home and found out that
she was living with the man who had given the damage to her before,Tess couldn't
accept the fact and killed the man who was living with her.

Then she escaped and spent together with Angel three days and nights. The police
found them on the moming of the fourth day. A few days later, Tess was executed.

Having read this novel, I like the heroine very much because of her purity,
warmness, nobility and the spirit of devotion, She dared to fight against the
evil, bravely seek and sturggle for the rights of love.
Thomas Hardy was famous for the poetical novels. "Tess of the D'urbevilles"is
one of this kind. The novel is so fresh that it is nearly like a poem. For
nearly a century, it has been popular with the people all over the world.

shakspere (wrong spelling) created hamlet--a man with wisdom and courage .in order to revenge on his uncle for killing his father, he pretented (spelling mistake) to be mad and suffered a series of misery. on the contrary, we can also say that hamlet is rude and selfish for he did not think twice before his revenge . if (capitalize "if" since it is the beginning word of the sentence.) a country has no king, how can a country keep alive (you need a question mark here since it is a question.) so, every thing has two sides, the bright side and ambral side. every time we make a decision we have to think twice.
comment:
be careful with your spelling, grammar, and punctuation. too many uncessary mistakes.
it is good that you looked at both the dark and bright sides of hamlet. thats quite objective and convincing.
