first，second，then， finally，next。

一、first

1、含义：adj. 第一的；最初的；adv. 首先；第一；n. 最初；(序数词)第一。

2、用法

first作为序数词用时，意为“第一(个、批),头一〔几〕个”，常和定冠词连用。

first用作形容词一般修饰单数名词，修饰有few或数词修饰的复数名词时是把复数名词看作一个整体。first与基数词连用时，一般置于基数词前，但first引起的固定词组则应置于基数词之后。

二、second

1、含义：adj. 第二的；次等的；再一个的；num. 第二；n. 片刻；秒；adv. 第二；其次；v. 支持；赞成；附和；调派。

2、用法

1300年左右进入英语，直接源自古法语的second；最初源自古典拉丁语的secuns，意为紧接着，下一个。

second的基本意思是“支持”某人，也可表示“赞成”某议案或提案、“赞同”某人的观点等。

三、then

1、含义：adv. 那么；然后；当时；而且；adj. 当时的；n. 当时。

2、用法

then的意思是“当时，那时”“接着，于是，然后”“还有，而且”“那么，因此”，作“那时”解时可指过去，也可指将来。

then作“那么”解时常用于句首或句末,用来缓和语气；作“然后”解时常位于and之后，所修饰的词语之前,起连接作用。

then有时可用于对已经提到过或刚提到过的某物表示一般的看法,可译作“则是，就是”。

四、finally

1、含义：adv. 最后；决定性地；最终。

2、用法

表示“最后”。finally在列举事物时可以用来引出最后一项内容，或者是直接放在动词之前，finally在主观上有“等了好久才…”的含义。

含有“最后，终于”之意，finally不带感情色彩，指一系列事情的最后结局。

Finally the team from Argentina won the championship.

最后，这支来自阿根廷的队伍夺得了冠军。

五、next

1、含义：adj. 下一个的；其次的；隔壁的；adv. 其次；下次；然后；n. 下一个；prep. 靠近。

2、用法

next用作形容词可指位置、时间顺序上紧挨着。用于时间时，表示的是以现在为标准，则其前不加the，意思是“下(年、月、日)等”; 如果与特定时间有联系,其前要加the。表示顺序时，意为“下一个，紧接着的”，其前一定要加the。

需要注意的是：地点前面有无定冠词 the 有时候的意思不一样,如 in school 在上学 上学 in the school 在校园内
