文章的开头一般来说应尽量做到开门见山，用简单明白的叙述引出文章的话题，使读者了解文章要谈论什么，一下于引起读者的兴趣。
作文常见的开头形式大致有以下几种：
1.开门见山，揭示主题
文章一开头，，就交待清楚文章的主题是什么。如“How I Spent My Vacation”(我怎样度假)的开头可以写成：
I Spent my last vacation happily．
"Honesty"(谈诚实)的开头可以写成：
Honesty is one of the best virtues．An honest man is always trusted and respected．On the contrary, one who tells lies is regarded as a "liar"，and is looked upon by honest people．
2.交代人物、事情、时间或环境开头
在文章的开头，先把人物、事件和环境交待清楚。例如"A Trip to Jinshan" (去金山旅游)的开头可以写成：
The day before yesterday my class went on a bus trip to Jinshan. The bus ride there took three hours. The long trip made us very tired, but the sight of the beautiful sea refreshed us.
3. 回忆性的开头
用回忆的方法来开头。例如"A Trip to the Taishan Mountain"(泰山游)的开头是：
I remember my first trip to the Taishan Mountain as if it were yesterday.
4.概括性的开头
即对要在文章中叙述的人或事先作一个概括性的介绍。如“The Happiness of Reading Books”(读书的快乐)的开头：
People often say that gold and silver are the most valuable things in the world. But I say that to read books is more valuable than anything else, because books give us knowledge and knowledge gives us power.
5.介绍环境式的开头 即开头利用自然景物或自然环境引出要介绍的.事物。如“An Accident”(一场事故)的开头可以写成:
It was a rainy and windy morning. The sky was gloomy, the temperature was low, and the street was nearly empty. I was on my way back to school. Suddenly, a speeding car came round the corner.
6.交待写作目的的开头
在文章的一开头就交待写作目的，如通过文章要表扬谁，批评谁，或说明一个什么问题等。如 "Pollution Control" (控制污染)的开头：
In this article I shall draw your attention to the subject of pollution control.

最近，闲来无事，从桌上随手拿起冰心奶奶写的《寄小读者》，翻开书，不经意读起了其中的通讯五。读着读着，我的眼睛湿润了，一种莫名的感动涌上心头。是呀，有谁能扯断这浓厚的母子情呢？母亲给了我们生命，又把我们养育大，给予我们爱，这种爱是永恒不变的，是温和的、是细碎的。然而且也正是这种爱时刻围绕着我们，使我们并不珍惜，有时甚至感到厌烦。
记得有一次雨天，我要去姥姥家玩，临行前，妈妈不停地叮嘱道：“婉颖哪，去了以后，别跟妹妹在院在子里疯跑，地上的雨水还没干，容易滑倒……”我是属于那种一个耳朵进，一个耳朵出的类型。一到姥姥家便和妹妹一起在院子里疯了起来，一不留神，摔了一个大跟头，疼得哇哇大哭。这时，我想起了妈妈，要是她在身边多好啊！又想起了妈妈的叮嘱，对我来说是多么重要。啊，母爱是多么珍贵啊！
现在的家庭大部分只有一个孩子，都是“小皇帝”、“小公主”都把自己当作中心，不管母亲的感受。同学们，我们是“生在福中不知福”，试想一下，如果有个孤儿流浪在社会，有谁会对他问寒问暖，又有谁会关心他呢？
地球也是我们的“母亲”，我们在它的怀抱中生活，它为我们提供源源不断的资源和食物，可人们却不珍惜眼前的一切，不珍惜“母亲”对我们的爱。为了自己的利益，破坏大自然，使以前的树林变成了高楼大厦；以前的绿洲变成了大片沙漠；以前清澈见底的小河变成了臭气熏天的“黑河”；以前空气中的花香变成了刺鼻有害的气体；以前的声声鸟语变成了嗓音……使我们的“母亲”身上遍体鳞伤。我们应该珍惜地球母亲对我们的爱，否则后果不堪设想。

So here are my top 5 reasons our children should help out around the house:
