In the course of our ecational experiences, there are the many teachers who are good, the few teachers who are great and the handful of teachers we never forget. As a psychologist who does research on teaching, I have been interested in the characteristics of the teachers we never forget. What do these teachers have in common?

I am blessed to have had four such unforgettable teachers:

The first was my fourth-grade teacher, Mrs. Alexa. I had done poorly on group IQ tests as a child, and as a result, was expected to be a poor student. I had fulfilled the expectations set for me, and had become a poor student. Mrs. Alexa, who expected much more of me, pulled me out of my gently rolling descent toward the depths of abysmal academic achievement, and helped me transform myself into an A student.

The second teacher was my undergraate mentor, Endel Tulving. He taught me that the fact that many psychologists (or other scientists) believe something to be true does not make it true. Indeed, he often seemed to be skeptical of exactly the beliefs psychologists hold most dear. He was willing to "defy the crowd." He also taught me the importance of doing not just good work, but my absolute best.

The third teacher was my graate mentor, Gordon Bower. He taught me the importance of following one's own intellectual passion. Bower has had many successful students, I think, in large part because he knew when to intervene, but also when to leave his students alone to find their own niche and to find themselves. He also taught me the importance of life beyond the groves of academe.

And the fourth teacher, Wendell Garner, was my faculty mentor when I became an assistant professor. He taught me that one is judged by the positive contributions one makes. All psychologists spend some part of their career critiquing the work of others. Garner showed me that the psychologists who are remembered are those who have something positive and important to say.

What these teachers have in common, I believe--what sets them apart--is that they are what I have come to call transformational mentors, whom I will distinguish from transactional mentors. The terms transformational and transactional are drawn from the literature on leadership (see, e.g., Bass 1998) but, when applied to mentorship, they have a somewhat different meaning.

Most mentors are transactional mentors--people with whom one has meaningful transactions. The mentor is professionally and personally supportive, a source of advice, a sounding board when a student needs one, and a helper in times of distress. A transformational mentor is all of these things, plus something more: He or she inspires one, reveals new ways of understanding professional and personal matters, and motivates one to transcend who one is to become a different kind of professional and, perhaps, person. He or she literally transforms one's mental world, and sometimes one's physical world as well. What sets apart the four specific mentors mentioned above is that they transformed my life.

When we prepare our students to teach, perhaps the most important thing we can teach them is how to become transformational mentors. There is no one formula for becoming a transformational mentor: Rather, as mentors, we must capitalize on our indivial strengths to find ways to enter this role. But I think transformational mentors have in common that they are willing to inspire their students in certain ways.

Transformational mentors are the teachers and role models we never forget. They help their students to:

* Become the best they can be by recognizing and capitalizing on their strengths, and recognizing and compensating for or correcting their weaknesses.

* Create their own niche of professional and personal accomplishment, rather than simply following in the footsteps of their mentors.

* Discern the importance not just of solving problems, but also of realizing just what the important problems are, whether in one's professional or personal life.

Some of us psychologists are classroom teachers; others are not. But there is a most important kind of teacher we all can be. This is the teacher who becomes a transformational mentor, and in the process, changes a student's life. Long after good lecturers, seminar leaders and advisers are forgotten, the transformational mentor will be remembered, and even more importantly, will live on through the students whose lives he or she has transformed.

Friendship is significance in our whole life, do you think so ? means being friendly to each other or making friends with one another. Human beings are social animals. They do not live in isolation. They need each other both physically and emotionally. However, some people distort friendship by forming small groups that are harmful to others, or even to the whole community. In university some students from the same city or province form an association to help each other. But such associations often exclude students from other parts of the country, and thus do not promote friendship in a broad sense.

how to learn English

Improving your motivation

Before you start reading, you should know this: Learning English requires action. You may know all the learning tips, but if you don''t start doing things, you will achieve nothing. Therefore our method is not just for reading; it is for reading and doing.

You need two things to learn English well — passion and effective learning methods — and passion is the more important one. Why? Because passion makes you want to learn English; the learning methods only tell you how to do it faster.

If you love learning English:

You will do it regularly and spend more time on it.
Learning English will be easier for you. It will be easy for you to remember new words and grammar structures. It''s because the brain easily remembers information on a subject that you like. (For example, some people like history and know everything about World War II. If you told a "normal person" to memorize all these facts, they would never do it.)
We know you may not love learning English. And even if you love it, you will sometimes not want to do it. This is how human psychology works — sometimes we are so lazy, bored, and tired that we don''t want to do even the things that we like.

Here is what you can do when you don''t feel like learning English:

Imagine yourself in the future
Imagine you can talk to native speakers just like you talk in your first language. Imagine other people wanting to speak English as well as you do. Imagine the possibility of writing e-mail to people from all over the world.

You should know that it is possible to learn English really well. Just look at other people who have done it.

Remember that you are already good
You already know some English (you''re reading an article in English right now). That''s a big success! Now it''s time for more successes. Time to start using powerful methods of effective learning. Time to gain an impressive knowledge of English.

Remember there is a lot that you don''t know
You are good, but your English probably isn''t perfect. You probably can''t understand English-language TV, read books in English, talk to native speakers easily, write letters without mistakes, etc.

You should never think your English is perfect. Even if you are the best student in your class, always try to find your weak areas and work on them. When you''ve learned to speak English well, your problems will be quite small: punctuation, rarely used grammar structures, rare words, understanding "street language". Right now, your problems are probably more basic: mistakes in pronunciation, small vocabulary, grammar problems with the present perfect tense and conditional structures.

Use your English whenever you can
This is very, very important. The more you use English, the more you will want to learn it.

Because English is so popular, you can use it everywhere. You can use Yahoo to find English-language websites with interesting information, you can watch American cartoons, you can play adventure games on your computer, you can read interesting books in English, or you can do other things that we write about.

If you do these things, you will not only have fun and learn English. If you see that a new English word lets you understand your favorite TV show (or communicate with people, or beat a computer game), you will want to learn more words. So you will learn English more, use it more, learn it more, use it more... If you also use effective learning methods, your English will grow faster than you can imagine.

My passion and my dream

As I lift my head and part my lips, my voice escalates with every note
that resonate the air. The soothing words bounce off my tongue and
release the tension within. The tune that tantalizes my ears helps me
make it through the day because of its comforting presence. I believe
that singing is not just an art; it's a means of expressing one's
emotions. Thus my passion for singing, coupled with my love for music
comes from deep within my soul, mind and heart. When I sing, I sing with
all of me, putting everything I can into it, and that's exactly what
makes me feel complete.
I have always had a great passion for
singing. From the time I could speak my first words, I was singing!
Although singing in front of others had a pure sense of joy pulsing
through my veins, in my own time, singing has always been way of
blocking out all my worldly worries. It is one thing that I feel
strongly about, knowing that I have attained the skills with perfect
ease, as if it has always been there within my soul, only left for me to
discover. From a very early age, I wanted to and have to quite an
extent, attain a strong understanding of the use of tune, rhythm and
beats, how to pace up, where to pause and breathe. My sensible approach
and proficiency has made everyone appreciate my voice and my flair very
much. My urge to become a singer, grew stronger with each passing day.
Realizing
the prospect of my potential, my mother admitted me into an institution
where I learned singing for four years. Appreciating almost all forms
of music, ranging from classical to rock, I have ended up taking
rigorous courses in classical music. Once I had mastered the basics, I
took a step further and enhanced my skills by practicing the various and
intricate "raag" and applying them wherever I felt was appropriate.
Music has given me a way out of 'my box', helped me through whatever has
come my way.
Through music, I have also been able to reach out to
people of my community. I have been given the opportunity to teach the
basics in a school for the underprivileged children. They learnt it
fairly well and became fond of my style; soon I was asked to take their
academic classes. Being an initiator, I always presented keen interest
in making handicrafts, teaching, debating and this opportunity serves
just the purpose. During my brief time with them I was able to come in
close encounters, with about the hardships these children go through,
the difficulties that they have to face everyday. It made me realize
that we can't always decide our fates, but only hope that the world has a
place for our dreams. . I had a great time teaching them, and learning
those aspects of life I had not acknowledged before. I realized how
these people; get through each day that brings with it, countless
difficulties. They made me count my blessings, and I was grateful that
music had led me there.

As I approached my senior years in
school, pressure was building up and academics became my first and only
priority. The more I concentrated on my studies, the more I felt my
passion slip out of my fingers. And before I knew it I had to leave my
music school. There grew a distance I could not cross, a barrier that
made my dreams seem far-fetched for lack of practice made matters worse.
The ease with which I could sing seemed to have evaporated into thin
air....
But like they say, "When fate closes one door, it opens
countless others'. Before long I came across teacher who truly and
genuinely appreciated my singing, the very first time that he heard me.
He revived the strength and the faith that I had once lost. I met him
again, and he told me how music has always been a huge part of his life,
and that it was his sheer love for music and his ability to sing that
set him apart. Again it was music that bridged all gaps between me and a
person I barely knew. It can and has connected minds just the way it
linked ours. It has the potential to bring together people of all ages
and races. I am overwhelmed to be able to realize that music is and has
always been an indispensable part of me. It has quite righteously and
consistently proven to be my greatest strength. I believe that one day
it will take me to great heights and make my dream of making it the
strongest unifying force in the world come true; uniting races and
times, no matter how distant and how long. I have faith in the immense
power of music, just like it has always had an inexplicably strong faith
in me and hope these experiences to aid me in leading a successful and
fulfilling future.

㈥ Never lose you passion.

This a a colorful world, as we all know. And why still keep low, and why still, away, let time flow? Cheer up, and do something! With passion you cann't see anything described as "impossbile", you will crack all the blockage along the way. You've got to believe in yourself. You've got to stride forward, and never mind what other may say and think. Never lose your passion, get down to work, get down to doing something, and I'm sure that oneday you will transform yourself into a perfect one.

never seek, never mind

There is one thing that haunts me is whether we should care too much about the future in store. I seek and I get lost. What a woe! But what's the problem? What's wrong with me? Is it not right for someone to persuit? No, I guess it is .But maybe what experience can tell is us is that we may be subtle in things. Never seek as crazily, because you may fall down , but never mind, we still have the strength to stand up and keep on.

Time is money

Time is life, time is money, this is an old quotation. I think time, everyone of us may at the uttermost about one hundrend years, is the most treasurable thing. We have time, we have life , what a bless! But we have not enough, this is misfortune. So what are you still ocuppying sitting there idly? It's time for you to rise up your spirit and take your resposiblity, your parents and the country, and you. Time is money, you can make a lot from it. Keep it in mind that you do not squander it!

㈧ 在线等,题目为“passion vs. pressure, to strive or to dream."的英语演讲稿。 材料也行的。一点头绪木

这个可以,容易,我最会演讲了

”热情与压力,争取还只是梦“

首先啊,你要解释 热情对你自己来说是怎么的意义,然后说压力,什么东西做成你必须奋斗的压力

然后可以马上进入状态,英文演讲我是最主张用例,你扁个故事也行,但必须主人公是你自己

比如啊

Once upon of time, I have a dream. I was dreaming to be a doctor. When I first started, i had all the passion i need to take the first step. (然后说一下你的过程经历,就是说你怎么开始的啊,可以编故事,反正别人也不知道)Soon, I feel the pressure around me........(就说遇到什么困难,竞争,压力大)

At first, it was passion. Later, it is pressure. At first, I have a dream. Later, I strive to turn my dream into reality. For me, pressure is a door which gives me the energy to strive for my dream.

㈨ 关于passion in life的英文作文

My passion in life is exercise and health. Growing up in an overweight and unhealthy family always inspired me to be different. Then in 2002, the biggest push for me to keep healthy came when I was diagnosed with antiphospholipid syndrome. This puts me at an increased risk of stroke, because of poor circulation and the increased risk of thrombosis. I joined a gym after the birth of my daughter and soon gained a new found confidence. I loved the changes that were happening to my body. I suddenly felt good in the clothes I was wearing and also found that the exercise was a good way of setting free any anger or frustration that any new mother experiences.
I have found that exercising has helped keep me focused as a person. I know that I am helping my illness by improving the circulation, and by eating healthily I am keeping cholesterol low. This is also helping create the chance of a stroke. The benefits of eating healthily dont just help me but my daughter too, because I care about my diet, she too eats better, and has a mum with lots of stamina.
Unfortunately now being busy at home, I no longer have the time to go to the country, but I do not let this change my passion for exercise. Instead of watching self-improvement programmes on the television, which never have the desired outcome of making us feel good, I follow a work-out DVD and get my exercise done that way.
