Mother Teresa
Mother Teresa, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, dedicated the majority of her life to helping the poorest of the poor in India, thus gaining her the name "Saint of the Gutters." Almost 50 years later, the Missionaries of Charity have grown from 12 sisters in India to over 3,000 in 517 missions throughout 100 countries worldwide.

(Blessed Teresa)

Mother Teresa (August 26, 1910 – September 5, 1997), born Agnesë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu (IPA: [/agnɛs gɔnˈʤa bɔˈjadʒju/]), was an Albanian Roman Catholic nun with Indian citizenship who founded the Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata (Calcutta), India in 1950. For over 45 years she ministered to the poor, sick, orphaned, and dying, while guiding the Missionaries of Charity's expansion, first throughout India and then in other countries.
By the 1970s she was internationally famed as a humanitarian and advocate for the poor and helpless, e in part to a documentary, and book, Something Beautiful for God by Malcolm Muggeridge. She won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 and India's highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna, in 1980 for her humanitarian work. Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity continued to expand, and at the time of her death it was operating 610 missions in 123 countries, including hospices and homes for people with HIV/AIDS, leprosy and tuberculosis, soup kitchens, children's and family counseling programs, orphanages, and schools.
She has been praised by many indivials, governments and organizations; however, she has also faced a diverse range of criticism. These include objections by various indivials, including Christopher Hitchens, Michael Parenti, Aroup Chatterjee, Vishva Hin Parishad, against the proselytizing focus of her work; this included baptisms of the dying, a strong anti-abortion stance, and a belief in the spiritual goodness of poverty. Several medical journals also criticised the standard of medical care in her hospices and concerns were raised about the opaque nature in which donated money was spent.
Following her death she was beatified by Pope John Paul II and given the title Blessed Teresa of Calcutta.

She delivered a simple acceptance speech on behalf of the poor. Although it is only a simple speech, but full of love and thanks, people are deeply moved, the world is moving.

personally do not deserve this honor. I accept it in the glory of God and on behalf of all the people in the world who suffer from hunger, cold, street and disability, as well as those who are neglected and not cared for. I accept it in their name.

The peace prize enables the poor and the rich to understand each other. Today, I am emphasizing caring for the poor, because the poor are also created and loved by God. Therefore, to betray the poor is to betray Christ; to hurt the poor is to hurt Christ. Our poor are great. They need our respect, our love and our attention.

Let us remember that God's gift to us is mutual love. With God's gift, we can all do what we can. For Christ's sake, let's give love to others. Let's love each other as he loves us.

The poor are great. They can teach us many good habits. One day, some poor people came to us and thanked us. They said,'You are the best philanthropists. You help us make family plans and teach us how to plan, because there is nothing more important than self-discipline and mutual love.

Their simple words are the most beautiful and vivid language. Maybe these people are short of food and clothes, and they don't even have a fixed home, but they are all great people.

The poor are very lovely people. One day, we took in four homeless people from the street. One of them looked very bad. I said to the nuns, "Take care of those three people. I'll take care of the patient." I comforted the poor man with all my love and all I could do. I supported her in bed. There was a beautiful smile on her face. She held my hand tightly and said thankfully, "Thank you." Then close your eyes and die.

... Before he died, he did not curse anyone, he did not speak ill of others, and he did not compare himself with anyone else. He was like a pure angel. This is the greatness of our people. That's why Christ said, "I was naked, homeless, without food; I was abandoned, scolded, and neglected, and you helped me."

I think we are not real social workers. Maybe we are just doing some social work. But we are the people who really have deep thoughts in the world, because we are with Christ 24 hours a day, communicating with him. You and I, we all need to bring Christ into our homes, because we live with our families and we should pray together. I don't think we need violence in our families for peace.

What we need to do is to get together, love each other, bring peace, joy and inspiration to each other with love. Only in this way can we overcome the evil in the world. With prayer and our sincere devotion, we should begin with our family and eliminate those pains, resentments and sorrows.

Our advocacy of "love begins at home" does not depend on how much we do, but on how much love we incorporate into the process of doing it and how much we contribute to Christ.

"The good you do today, people will forget tomorrow: Do good anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some
true enemies: Succeed anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of being selfish and
having ulterior motives: Be kind anyway.

What you spend years building, someone may try to destroy
overnight: Build anyway.

If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you: Be honest
and frank anyway.

Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough:
Give the world the best you have anyway.

If you have serenity and happiness, they may be jealous: Be happy anyway.

The final analysis is between you and God, not between you
and them."

Beautiful Smile and Love
The poor are very wonderful people. One evening we went out and we picked up four people from the street. And one of them was in a most terrible condition, and I told the sisters: You take care of the other three. I take care of this one who looked worse. So I did for her all that my love can do. I put her in bed, and there was such a beautiful smile on her face. She took hold of my hand as she said just the words "thank you" and she died. I could not help but examine my conscience[良心]before her and I asked what would I say if I was in her place. And my answer was very simple. I would have tried to draw a little attention to myself. I would have said I am hungry, that I am dying, I am cold, I am in pain, or something, but she gave me much more-she gave me her grateful love. And she died with a smile on her face. As did that man whom we picked up from the drain[阴沟、下水道], half eaten with worms, and we brought him to the home. "I have lived like an animal in the street, but I am going to die like an angel, loved and cared for." And it was so wonderful to see the greatness of that man who could speak like that, who could die like that without blaming anybody, without cursing anybody, without comparing anything. Like an angel-this is the greatness of our people. And that is why we believe what Jesus had said: I was hungry, I was naked, I was homeless, I was unwanted, unloved, uncared for, and you did it to me.
I believe that we are not real social workers. We may be doing social work in the eyes of the people, but we are really contemplatives[修行者、沉思冥想的人] in the heart of the world. For we are touching the body of Christ twenty-four hours…And I think that in our family we don't need bombs and guns, to destroy, to bring peace, just get together, love one another, bring that peace, that joy, that strength of presence of each other in the home. And we will be able to overcome all the evil that is in the world.
And with this prize that I have received as a Prize of Peace, I am going to try to make the home for many people who have no home. Because I believe that love begins at home, and if we can create a home for the poor I think that more and more love will spread. And we will be able through this understanding love to bring peace be the good news to the poor. The poor in our own family first, in our country and in the world. To be able to do this, our Sisters, our lives have to be wove with prayer. They have to be woven with Christ to be able to understand, to be able to share. Because to be woven with Christ is to be able to understand, to be able to share. Because today there is so much suffering…When I pick up a person from the street, hungry, I give him a plate of rice, a piece of bread, I have satisfied. I have removed that hunger. But a person who is shut out, who feels unwanted, unloved, terrified, the person who has been thrown out from society-that poverty is so full of hurt and so unbearable…And so let us always meet each other with a smile, for the smile is the beginning of love, and once we begin to love each other naturally we want to do something.
