杨澜：少数族裔在异国会比本国人更用功，是会有生存的焦虑吗？
蔡美儿：完全同意。犹太人在美国励志的故事就是很多像我一样在美国拼搏的华人的故事。
我对于孩子价值观的形成是非常重视的，在美国很多孩子会笑话有外国口音的孩子，我告诉我的孩子永远不要笑话有口音的人，因为那是勇敢的标志，敢于来到一个陌生土地，用另外一个国家的语言说话，这是勇敢的标志，这一点恰恰是很多人忽视的。
杨澜：你在书中提到过"富不过三代"这个问题，如何看待移民家族中的第三代呢？
蔡美儿：一般第三代移民不会为生存而担忧，更容易放纵自己，放弃学业，肆意挥霍。我的两个女儿，她们在物质条件非常好的情况下成长，我不希望把她们教成自私自利，只在乎自己不在乎别人的第三代，如果自私自利不可能对社会有任何贡献，她们自己的生活、婚姻也都不会开心。而今天的中国很多家长就面临着这些问题，孩子在这样一个环境中成长，我觉得许多中国家长应当反思。
杨澜：如何看待孩子的快乐与成功？
蔡美儿：很多人只看到我给女儿的那些规定而产生误解，但实际上我的书是为了让父母给孩子们更多空间去追求自己的兴趣，并去倾听她们的需求。如果让我在快乐与成功之间选择，我会选择快乐，但两者必须是相辅相成的。
杨澜：你如何看待比尔·盖茨辍学依然成功？
蔡美儿：我会支持我的孩子去追寻自己的梦想。但是这只限于大学，高中我不会。教育应该是更年轻的时候才更严厉，更需要去引导。但是索菲娅9月份就要开始上大学，对于她在大学里面，她要主修什么课系，想要读什么我是自由开放的，让她自己来做这个选择。但我觉得像比尔·盖茨取得成功之前，他也需要有足够的知识和足够的努力，在创业前期他依然非常努力。
杨澜：你认为你的书如此受欢迎是否有一定的原因是，现在中国、印度的崛起挑战了美国的地位？
蔡美儿：是的，现在美国社会存在很多这样的担忧。美国一些声音也认为美国孩子的基础教育相对于其它国家来说过于简单了，而中国的家长则开始关注起美国的自由教育方式，我觉得这也是我的书在这个时间出版引起关注的原因之一。
