一、內容簡單化
內容簡單化是考生在構思專八作文時應遵循的原則。考生不論是在練習時還是在考場上都應當牢記這一點。許多考生在作文上敗下陣來就是因為花費了大量的時間和精力追求內容的新穎別致。國家考試中心在出專八作文試題時特別注意選擇一些彈性不是很大的題目，因為考試作為一種語言測試方式，其重點在於測試考生英語語言水平，它不像出國英語考試，譬如托福、GMAT和GRE這類智商型考試那樣測試考生邏輯思辯的能力；如果設置彈性較大的題目，評卷人在評分時就不容易把握。
事實上，專八作文考試的內容並不會給評卷人留下太深的影響，參閱任何一本考試作文指南書的考生都可以發現書中範文的內容不會有太多新意，評卷人評判的是考生的文能力，考生在構思時只要保證自己的內容符合邏輯，能夠言之有理、言之成理、切題即可，然後把更多的注意力放在如何追求語言的得體性上；有的考生在考場上絞盡腦汁，想要找出些絕妙的內容來吸引評卷人的特別關注，結果往往是花費了十分的心思只得到一分的回報，有時反而會弄巧成拙，使評卷人的注意力轉移方向，影響得分。
在考場上，筆者認為考生在構思內容上所花的時間不應超過5分鍾，在認真讀題並將其理解透徹以後，考生可以在試卷題目下方的空白處列一個簡短的提綱，用中文即可，以此作為寫作過程中內容的提示，在提筆開始寫作的過程中就可將重點放在保證語言的流暢得體上，不會因為內容而中斷思路。
二、結構模式化
專八高分作文的第二大策略是結構模式化，這也是最核心的一條策略。通覽以往的考試作文考題，細心的考生不難發現，專業英語作文考題不僅題目彈性很小，而且題型相結穩定，這就為考生在短期內提高作文分數創造了一個條件，使考生完全可以在考前針對考試中可能出現的題型按照固定的結構模式進行訓練。
三、語言要包裝
做到內容簡單化和結構模式化，考生就已經向專八高分作文的目標邁進了一大步，如果考生還能在語言的細節上下一些功夫，作文的分數就會更上一層樓，這也就是我們接下來要談的第三大策略：語言要包裝。前面我們已經說過，專業英語作文的測試重點是考生的語言能力，因而在語言細節上下一點功夫就可以讓考生展示自己的語言修養。
作文中語言的包裝主要應從以下六點入手。
首先是語法方面的包裝。考生要注意在作文中選取一個中心時態，通常選取一般現在時即可，但在陳述具體例證時要根據不同的情況變換時態。大綱明確要求高分作文的句子要做到多樣化，所以最好不要全盤使用簡單句，這樣會降低文章的層次、復雜句和簡單句應在文章中交叉出現，而對一些描述性的例證以及臨時想起的內容可以使用簡單句。
詞彙的包裝是個較為艱巨的過程，但單從應試的角度而言，考生可以精選一些高分作文學習，吸取其中的語言營養，對其中的用詞進行細致的研究和模仿，在練習時盡量使用範文中一些常用的優秀詞彙。
同樣在引用名人名言時考生也要特別注意：中國人習慣用別人說的話來證明自己的觀點，而西方人引用名人名言通常都是為了進行批判性分析，這也是東西方文化上的一大差異，建議考生心意一不要使用名人名言，而應當用自己的邏輯去說服對方。
說到這里自然就引出五一個語言包裝的問題：應不應當在作文中作用諺語，大多數考生會覺得這些語言對評卷人而言已是陳詞濫調，不應該在他們面前賣弄，事實恰恰相反，非英語國家的考生使用諺語常常會給英語國家的評卷人留下良好的印象，他們認為只有英語功底很扎實的考生才能正確地使用諺語。因此，在對所用表達法把握很大的情況下，考生不妨在作文中寫一些地道的英語習語。
語言包裝的最後一點是文體意識。普林斯頓所提供的評分標准中非常明確地指出考生所寫的文章應當是academic(學術性)的，考生在提筆之前應當清楚地認識到現在這篇文章應當是學術性的正式文體，在遣詞造句時要拋棄口語體的非正式的詞彙和句型。
⑸ 專八作文「是否應該……」主題作文
規定：寫作部分設一題，20分，要求能根據所給題目及要求撰寫各類體裁的文章，文章長度約400個單詞，能做到內容充實、語言通順、用詞恰當、表達得體。真題在Directions的最後會告知考生：「Marks will be awarded for content, organization, grammar and appropriateness. Failure to follow the above instructions may result in a loss of marks」。考試時間45分鍾。
就字數時間比來看，專八作文難度介於雅思和托福之間;就寫作體裁來看，迄今為止，歷年真題考的都是議論文;就出題形式來看，都是給出背景和題目的寫作;就寫作內容來看，考到的基本上都是考生比較熟悉的關於大學生的話題或社會常見話題。而且文章結構一律規定為三部分：introction, body 和conclusion. 從這些方面看，專八寫作對於學習英語專業達到三年或四年的學生來說並不是特別難的事。但每年仍有為數不少的考生失利，令人惋惜。
筆者認為，要考好專八作文，應從以下幾個方面入手。
首先，必須對以上提到的對作文部分的要求做到充分了解，按照要求寫作。有些同學由於輕視，只根據考試前自己看到的一些其他考試的英語寫作模版(如大學英語六級或研究生入學考試英語寫作模版)來對付八級，結果與考試要求的文章結構和字數不符，造成嚴重失分。其次，必須在考前的一段時間做嚴格的.限時應試練習，以保證在考場上時間比較緊張的情況下發揮出自己真正的水平。通過練習，主要是提高自己兩個方面的素質：
一是進行邏輯思維的素質。與大學英語四、六級、考研以及專業四級考試不同，專八寫作要求的字數更多，更體現思維的深度和廣度，因此必須通過練習來促使自己提高邏輯思維的速度和質量。我固然會在課堂上教給大家一些常見的思維方法，如分類法、反證法、舉例法、因果法等等，但更具體的素材需要大家平時去積累。其實如果沒有考試，大家是會比較懶惰的，懶於去梳理自己的思維，形成比較成熟的觀點。我們在這里且不多提考試的好處，關鍵的是我們可以以備考為契機，通過練習來提高思考的速度，並且更重要的是養成一種勤於思考、廣泛涉獵的習慣，去關心家事、國事、天下事。這樣考試的時候才會有話可說，字數才會夠。
另外一個是應用英語語言的素質。有些同學不愁沒話說，思維也很有廣度和深度，但英語語言還是存在問題。這裡面有一部分同學是重視不夠，忽視了語法問題，出現了不少諸如單復數、冠詞、詞性等語法錯誤，甚至還有標點符號錯誤。而更多的同學是由於缺乏寫作練習，在用詞和造句方面做得不夠好。作為代表我國英語技能教育最高水平的考試，專八肯定會比國內其他英語考試更加重視語言的質量。其實也很簡單，就是用詞和造句的准確性和多樣性。這里的用詞准確既包括詞義准確，也包括搭配准確，還包括詞語的感情色彩和正式程度的准確;造句的多樣是指多種英語句式的靈活運用。這要求同學們平時一定要多做辨析詞義、熟記搭配的工
