矗立在金蓮花廣場中央、寓意澳門永遠繁榮昌盛的大型蓮花雕塑金光奪目。這份由中央政府於1999年澳門回歸祖國之際贈送給澳門特區政府的禮物――「盛世蓮花」，見證著澳門十年來的和諧昌盛。
7時58分，由治安警察隊組成的護旗隊員分別手捧國旗和特區區旗，健步走進廣場，兩支英姿颯爽的特警小隊分列護衛在旗桿兩側。
8時整，鮮艷的五星紅旗和翠綠的澳門特區區旗，在警察銀樂隊奏響的雄壯國歌聲中冉冉升起。在冬日的晨光中，國旗和區旗迎風飄揚，與金燦燦的「盛世蓮花」互相輝映，構成了一幅美麗動人的圖畫。
10年前的今天，澳門特區第一屆政府成立，市民第一次看到了五星紅旗和區旗在澳門升起。以後每年的12月20日，特區政府都在金蓮花廣場舉行隆重的升旗儀式，紀念澳門回歸祖國。
