Taking
Risks(談冒險)
Nothing
ventured,
nothing
gained.
Some
people
take
the
view
that
sometimes
in
life
we
have
to
take
chances
in
order
to
make
progress.
I
admire
such
people.
It
certainly
takes
guts
to
take
risks.
Maybe
it's
because
of
my
upbringing,
but
I
am
the
type
who
usually
plays
it
safe.
People
like
me
prefer
the
saying,
"A
bird
in
the
hand
is
worth
two
in
the
bush."
Conservative
as
it
may
be,
it
keeps
me
out
of
trouble.
I
must
confess,
however,
that
leading
such
a
moderate
life
may,
at
times,
be
boring.
Admittedly,
my
life
is
not
half
as
colorful
or
exciting
as
other
people's
but
at
least
it
gives
me
a
sense
of
security.

I couldn't see anything or anybody three metres away. Only could I hear some sounds. When people came nearer, I could see them clearly. My hair was wet. Droplets were on my face.
The morning fog was graally disappearing when the sun rose in he east. All the things were clear again.
Hello, everyone! Here is Wendy, giving a speech. In order to help you know more about Wendy.I wanna tell you something interesting about myself. And the story begins like this. When I was in Grade 2 in my high school,my teacher asked us to prepare a speech about anything that we wanna talk about. One day,it was my turn to do the job.Although I thought I had prepared so well,I still felt a bit nervous. And what』s worse,I decided to add some body language to my speech, which I thought would help a lot. However,it was just stupid, very very stupid, after I really did this standing in front of the class.
And now I will show you how I did that and how stupid it was.It goes like,"You,you and you,get together!」Ok,this is just part of what I said.I thought,it should have impressed my class deeply. On contrary,I heard hundreds of,oh,no,it should be thousands of laughters. And that is really quite bad.I even didn』t know what had happened. So I continued the speech, but from then I couldn』t find any confidence.
So,this is my story and do you have a better understanding about me?No matter whether you do or not,I am very happy, because all of you have shared my story. And that』s the most important!
I Regain Confidence
I received a devastating(破壞性極大的) blow to my self-confidence in the first interview of my college years. I applied to be a host in our Student Acting Troupe and felt confident that I would be accepted. But one of the panel(全體陪審員) members told me: "You seem inadequate (不適當的,不能勝任的,不夠格的)and you are a little vertically(絕頂的,極高的)-challenged." My life has never been the same since. I used bigger heels to complement(補充,補足) my height and psychological maneuvers(精神策略) and tricks to hide my lack of confidence. But no matter how hard I tried to look the part, there was still something missing.
As president of English Club, I organized the rehearsal(排練,排演) of Snow White for an English party. Unfortunately, we could not find an actor to be the last dwarf. It had to be someone who was humorous by nature and fluent in English. Suddenly, all eyes turned to me, and I knew I would have to be the dwarf. To my great surprise and delight, once on stage, I was totally absorbed in the performance and my humorous nature was put to full use. As the dwarf, I was a big hit.
Yes, each of us is only one among millions of others, but each of us is an indivial and each of us is unique. Cultivating our indiviality(個性,個人特徵) will transform(使改變) our lives, making of them a ka'leidoscope(萬花筒) of new colors and textures.(質地,構造)
A world deprived(奪去,剝奪,使喪失) of di'versity would be a bland and boring place. The real tragedy is not being short or shy or ugly, but having your identity lost in a world in which everyone is a clone(克隆) of a model cool boy or a flawless(無缺點的,無暇的) charming girl.
Given a choice, I would rather be ugly than live in such a world. I'd rather be a genuine dwarf accompanying a Snow White than be a Snow White among nothing but Snow Whites. I would rather be myself. I would contribute my indivial and unique colors to create a more diverse universe. Please, be yourself.
Backpacking in the wilderness can be a wonderful adventure, a lesson in suffering, or just plain fun. But by taking a little care, some careful planning, and with guided experience, it can be a thrilling pastime.
Learn the basic camping skills. Just reading about camping skills is not enough. To learn about other people's experiences and opinions, ask from a knowledgeable outdoorsman or outdoorswoman. If you are new to backpacking trips, consider joining a backpacking group or tour and ask for help. You might want to learn these things below just in case something goes wrong.

On Adventure Activities
Depending on personal experience, preference and emotion, different people have different views towards adventure activities like rock climbing and bungee jumping. As far as I am concerned, these adventure activities have a great positive effect on our physical and mental health.
There are reasons accounting for my view. For one thing, it is a good way to keep our body health. In modern society, most people are busier than ever before and have less time to take exercise, so the positive effects that doing exercises bring to us is unprecedented needed. Attending adventure activities now and then can help us keep fit and keep labor and relax in balance. For another, attending adventure activities also has a great impact on keeping our mental health. Most people in modern society suffer greater pressure than ever before and need to release it effectively and promptly. Attending adventure activates needs more concentration and attention and that can help us release our pressure by distracting our attention from work and study. There is no denying that releasing pressure in time is good for our mental health.
To put it in a nutshell, attending adventure activities has a great positive effect on our health. However, one thing should be reminded of that, adventure activities are not appropriated for everyone and great attention should be given while attending.

Last weekend, my friends and I decided to visit a famous mountain in our city. It was a bright and cheerful morning. We were singing and laughing all the way. One and a half hours later, we arrived at the foot of the mountain, we began to climb. We could see many beautiful flowers and odd trees on the mountainside. The mountain is quite high, but we finally reached the top. From the mountaintop, we could get a bird』s eye view of the town. It looked so beautiful in the mist. We also visited a temple there and there are many people who are praying for health and good fortunes.
When it was getting dark we returned. We spent a very wonderful time together. Though I was tired that night, I was too excited to fall asleep.
