作文常見的開頭形式大致有以下幾種：
1.開門見山，揭示主題
文章一開頭，，就交待清楚文章的主題是什麼。如「How I Spent My Vacation」(我怎樣度假)的開頭可以寫成：
I Spent my last vacation happily．
"Honesty"(談誠實)的開頭可以寫成：
Honesty is one of the best virtues．An honest man is always trusted and respected．On the contrary, one who tells lies is regarded as a "liar"，and is looked upon by honest people．
2.交代人物、事情、時間或環境開頭
在文章的開頭，先把人物、事件和環境交待清楚。例如"A Trip to Jinshan" (去金山旅遊)的開頭可以寫成：
The day before yesterday my class went on a bus trip to Jinshan. The bus ride there took three hours. The long trip made us very tired, but the sight of the beautiful sea refreshed us.
3. 回憶性的開頭
用回憶的方法來開頭。例如"A Trip to the Taishan Mountain"(泰山游)的開頭是：
I remember my first trip to the Taishan Mountain as if it were yesterday.
4.概括性的開頭
即對要在文章中敘述的人或事先作一個概括性的介紹。如「The Happiness of Reading Books」(讀書的快樂)的開頭：

5.介紹環境式的開頭 即開頭利用自然景物或自然環境引出要介紹的.事物。如「An Accident」(一場事故)的開頭可以寫成:
It was a rainy and windy morning. The sky was gloomy, the temperature was low, and the street was nearly empty. I was on my way back to school. Suddenly, a speeding car came round the corner.
6.交待寫作目的的開頭
在文章的一開頭就交待寫作目的，如通過文章要表揚誰，批評誰，或說明一個什麼問題等。如 "Pollution Control" (控制污染)的開頭：
In this article I shall draw your attention to the subject of pollution control.

最近，閑來無事，從桌上隨手拿起冰心奶奶寫的《寄小讀者》，翻開書，不經意讀起了其中的通訊五。讀著讀著，我的眼睛濕潤了，一種莫名的感動湧上心頭。是呀，有誰能扯斷這濃厚的母子情呢？母親給了我們生命，又把我們養育大，給予我們愛，這種愛是永恆不變的，是溫和的、是細碎的。然而且也正是這種愛時刻圍繞著我們，使我們並不珍惜，有時甚至感到厭煩。
記得有一次雨天，我要去姥姥家玩，臨行前，媽媽不停地叮囑道：「婉穎哪，去了以後，別跟妹妹在院在子里瘋跑，地上的雨水還沒干，容易滑倒……」我是屬於那種一個耳朵進，一個耳朵出的類型。一到姥姥家便和妹妹一起在院子里瘋了起來，一不留神，摔了一個大跟頭，疼得哇哇大哭。這時，我想起了媽媽，要是她在身邊多好啊！又想起了媽媽的叮囑，對我來說是多麼重要。啊，母愛是多麼珍貴啊！
現在的家庭大部分只有一個孩子，都是「小皇帝」、「小公主」都把自己當作中心，不管母親的感受。同學們，我們是「生在福中不知福」，試想一下，如果有個孤兒流浪在社會，有誰會對他問寒問暖，又有誰會關心他呢？

So here are my top 5 reasons our children should help out around the house:
