當今社會，高血壓已經成為常見病和多發病，在我國發病率有逐年增高的趨勢。高血壓帶來的心腦血管並發症給人們帶來身體的痛苦和經濟的負擔。
面對高血壓，很多人不知所措，認為只要吃了降壓葯就可以根治高血壓，甚至有人只在感覺難受時才吃葯。其實，科學地治療高血壓需要從生活習慣、飲食方式、精神因素、葯物等多方面進行綜合治療，才能收到事半功倍的效果，否則會因為某一方面的不足而影響整個治療。在這些因素中，我覺得飲食因素是高血壓病人最容易忽略但又最容易改正的治療。
只要您做到以下幾點，就可以通過吃飯讓高血壓「低頭」。
1.定時定量，少食多餐。吃飯不宜過飽，飯後適當活動。高血壓多發生於中年人和肥胖者，吃飯七成飽可以減輕胃腸的負擔，使體重保持在理想范圍以內，這對控制血壓和血脂的升高以及改善患者的自覺症狀很有好處。
2.適當攝入低脂肪、優質蛋白質食物。每日脂肪的攝入不超過50克，在限量范圍內選擇富含不飽和脂肪酸的油脂和肉類，它們可能會減少動脈硬化的發生，對增加微血管彈性、預防血管破裂、防止高血壓並發症的發生有一定作用。大豆蛋白可以降低血漿膽固醇濃度，防止高血壓的發生發展。每周進食2~3次魚類、雞類蛋白質，可改善血管彈性和通透性，增加尿鈉的排出從而起到降壓作用。此外脫脂牛奶、酸奶、海魚類等，對於降壓也有一定作用。
3.限制含膽固醇高的食物。如動物內臟、肥肉、魚子、蛋黃、烏賊魚等。如果長期進食高膽固醇的食物，可能導致高血脂症，使動脈內脂肪沉積，加重高血壓的發展。
4.提倡吃谷薯類食物。如澱粉、麵粉、米、紅薯等。特別是玉米面、燕麥、蕎麥、小米等含膳食纖維較多的食物能促進胃腸道蠕動，有利於膽固醇的排除。少進食含單糖和雙糖類食物，如蔗糖、果糖等，以防止血脂增高。
5.多吃綠色蔬菜和新鮮水果。它們富含維生素C、胡蘿卜素及膳食纖維等，有利於改善心肌功能和血液循環；還可促進膽固醇的排出，防止高血壓的發展。
6.多選用含鈣高的食物。如奶製品、豆製品、海產品、綠色蔬菜等，對於血管有保護作用，並有一定的降壓功效。
7.忌食興奮神經系統的食物。如酒、濃茶、咖啡及濃肉湯等，可能加重內臟的負擔，對高血壓不利。
8.飲食要清淡，不宜太咸。這一點高血壓患者應該高度重視。大量的科學調查表明，「吃得咸」或「口重」是導致高血壓的重要因素。食鹽攝入越多，高血壓發病率就越高。因為如果人體攝入食鹽(主要成分是氯化鈉)量過多，就會造成體內水和鈉瀦留，而導致血管管腔變細、血管阻力增加，使血壓上升；增加腎臟負擔，造成排鈉障礙，使血壓升高；可能對抗降壓葯物的作用，影響降壓效果。
正常人每日只需要0.5~2克鹽就可以維持生理活動的需要，世界衛生組織推薦每人每日攝入6克鹽是安全的。由於我國膳食方式的獨特性，鹽是創造美味佳餚的主要調味品，因此在我國的高血壓人群中，限鹽的任務就更加艱巨。根據膳食調查，我國目前每人每日食鹽攝入量12~20克左右，遠遠超過了需要量的標准。因此，一般要求高血壓患者將口味變清淡，每日限制食鹽在3~5克。同時還應當注意，並不是只有食鹽中才含有鈉，6毫升醬油的含鈉量也相當於1克食鹽，所以在限鹽的情況下，一定還要注意減少高鈉食品的攝入，諸如鹹肉、罐頭、火腿、加鹼發酵的食品等都應當限制。需要提醒的是，科學的飲食對降壓有利，但是仍應作為一種輔助手段，而不能取代降壓葯物的作用。
