A Time-space Discontinuum Encounter

I was thinking time traveling. Lights were dimmed, and everybody in the plane started to fall asleep. Many hours later, I was in a new world, fifteen hours and 10,000 km apart from the other world.

Everything was different – everything from trees and flowers to roads and buildings. People talked and acted differently. Every time I stepped off the plane a strange feeling rose from my deep subconscious, asking if what I saw was real. It was very real.

I was still fascinated by my perplexed and yet paradoxical feeling. I felt that I was in my own version of the movie The Matrix.

So many things happened and changed ring my years of absence. How could we share the things we saw and experienced in a couple of hours, or days, or even weeks?

Time past by quickly. I was grateful that I was made feel like home everywhere I went. I have great relationships with all my family members.

I had hard times answering two common questions: where are you from? Do you miss home?

I』ve been moving from place to place since 7 years old, and unfortunately I do not speak any local dialect. Home? I guess my home is where my families are.

On my flight back to the States, the idea of time traveling came out again. I was physically traveling through time zones and space; I was also switching my mind from the Chinese world to an English world.

Taking public transit, driving, going shopping – it was like I』ve never left.

「Welcome back!」 Yes, I am back.

The smell of Chinese tea reminds me the reality of both worlds. The less chance you have, the more precious it becomes. I hope my next time travel would not be too far away.

幾年回一次國的感覺一定和經常往返於國內外人們的不一樣。每次走下飛機步入機場內，一種不確定的真實感貫穿全身；雖然只是暫時，但身邊的一切確實在12小時內發生了本質性的變化。

路燈，樓房，一草一木都變了，人群和語言也都變了，很多時候讓我突然想到The Matrix的電影，我就像一個穿梭於2個世界的人。

一年，兩年，三年，這樣長的時間可以發生太多的事情。有人剛剛出生，有人已經永遠地走了。

這次見到了許多10年8年沒有見到的朋友，小時候建立的友誼讓我們盡情暢聊，但這么多年發生在人們身上的事情又怎能一言兩語說得清？

由於回國時間短，每在一處都是大宴小宴接連不斷，時間過得很快，心裡卻知道自己不真正屬於任何一處。真心的感激所有家人朋友讓我覺得走到哪裡都是走到了家裡。

一般最難回答的就是兩個問題：你是哪裡人？ 你想家么？

由於從小就四處移動和海洋石油的特殊環境，要回答第一個問題很麻煩；至於第二個問題，只能說，哪裡有我最親的人（們）哪裡就是我的家了。

坐在回美國的飛機上，穿越時空的感覺更強烈了：機艙變暗的瞬間，我不僅真正從身體上跨越地球時區和版圖，也從意識上再次跨回了一個（英文）世界。

下飛機，坐車，開車，買東西，我好像從來沒有離開似的。

聽到來自許多朋友「歡迎回來」的話，是啊，我回來了。

泡出的茶還濃濃地帶著這次回國的氣味，雖然短暫，卻難以忘懷。雖是不得已，但回國頻率少才顯得更特殊，時間短才顯得更寶貴，距離長才顯得更親切。
