The conceptual foundation for creation of the Internet was significantly developed by three indivials and a research conference, each of which changed the way we thought about technology by accurately predicting its future:
Vannevar Bush wrote the first visionary description of the potential uses for information technology with his description of the "memex" automated library system.
Norbert Wiener invented the field of Cybernetics, inspiring future researchers to focus on the use of technology to extend human capabilities.
The 1956 Dartmouth Artificial Intelligence conference crystallized the concept that technology was improving at an exponential rate, and provided the first serious consideration of the consequences.
Marshall McLuhan made the idea of a global village interconnected by an electronic nervous system part of our popular culture.
In 1957, the Soviet Union launched the first satellite, Sputnik I, triggering US President Dwight Eisenhower to create the ARPA agency to regain the technological lead in the arms race. ARPA appointed J.C.R. Licklider to head the new IPTO organization with a mandate to further the research of the SAGE program and help protect the US against a space-based nuclear attack. Licklider evangelized within the IPTO about the potential benefits of a country-wide communications network, influencing his successors to hire Lawrence Roberts to implement his vision.
Roberts led development of the network, based on the new idea of packet switching discovered by Paul Baran at RAND, and a few years later by Donald Davies at the UK National Physical Laboratory. A special computer called an Interface Message Processor was developed to realize the design, and the ARPANET went live in early October, 1969. The first communications were between Leonard Kleinrock's research center at the University of California at Los Angeles, and Douglas Engelbart's center at the Stanford Research Institute.
The first networking protocol used on the ARPANET was the Network Control Program. In 1983, it was replaced with the TCP/IP protocol developed by Bob Kahn, Vinton Cerf, and others, which quickly became the most widely used network protocol in the world.
In 1990, the ARPANET was retired and transferred to the NSFNET. The NSFNET was soon connected to the CSNET, which linked Universities around North America, and then to the EUnet, which connected research facilities in Europe. Thanks in part to the NSF's enlightened management, and fueled by the popularity of the web, the use of the Internet exploded after 1990, causing the US Government to transfer management to independent organizations starting in 1995.
And here we are.
I love to talk and I thrive on conversation. I like to debate, to collaborate, to combine people』 ideas with mine. All of this I do through conversation with others. Sometimes these conversations happen on Twitter, sometimes they happen over the phone, sometimes with a text, but for me, the best conversations are held in person.
A single conversation across the table with a wise person is worth a month』s study of books.— Chinese Proverb
However, when I am going out with my friends, we are always on our phones. I never get to hold deep conversations, conversations that matter, with my friends anymore. We are simply too involved with our phones. There is always a group message to reply to and someone to send a Snapchat.
By the end of 2013, there will be more mobile devices than people on the planet. Information is everywhere: photos, video, sound, and general data and it will only continue to grow. Half a billion tablets will ship by 2014.
Screens are everywhere.
Over the past month, I have begun to notice this more and now try to avoid using my phone for unnecessary communication. I have uninstalled Facebook & Twitter and changed the settings on my phone to only check my email once every hour. I have done tons to disconnect myself and it helps make me way more aware of what is really happening.
Still not seeing improvements
Conversation is the music of the mind, an intellectual orchestra, where all the instruments should bear a part, but where none should play together.— Charles Caleb Colton
An intellectual orchestra turned to a cacophony by distractions.
Now that I avoid using my phone when I am with my friends, I notice how distracted we all are. Many times I have gone with my friends to eat and they spend the majority of the time doing _something_ on their phone: usually texting or sending a picture of themselves in the restaurant (…or of their food, #yum) to twenty something friends on Snapchat.
Glad to know I, the one friend who is physically here with you, trying to have a conversation in person, matter. One of the reasons I like to go out to eat is not only the food, but to have those conversations that matter, the ones I thrive on, with people I like. I want to get to know you. I want to know how your week went. I want to know how your family has been. And, I am sure you have some questions for me too.
Instead you spend half the time interacting in conversation with me. The rest of the time you spend interacting with friends who are not even here with you.
What I especially do not like is when you never set your phone back down and I just sit there talking while you say things like uh huh.
What an amazing conversation.
Actually, I would be better off if I pushed a table against the wall, pulled up a chair, faced the wall and talked to it. At least the wall doesn』t have the blue glow of a phone on its face.
Sometimes I will try to have a conversation with someone while dining, and it starts out well. Then they get a text, they open up their phone and respond to the text. That』s okay, I understand if you have to send a quick message to someone. As long as you can continue the conversation with me where we left off, I have no problem with it.
The Petition
Put away your phones, talk to me.
People are distracted in face-to-face conversations these days. We cannot put their phone away and focus on each other. I might be selfish in requesting your undivided attention, but I know this does not only frustrate me, but others too.
My petition to the people of the world is get off your phones and give those around you in the present the attention they deserve. They are here with you; they obviously want to be with you because you matter to them. Let』s be real friends and talk to them.
You will be surprised what you can tell some one when you don』t have a 140 character limit. Until then, I will try texting my friends across the table when we go out for dinner.
That should work perfectly.
3. Are We More Connected or More Alone
Technology provides us with more convience than ever before. We can shop online, talk online, read online, and we can also do things like go on facebook or instagram and 'like' each other, which is something that we cannot do before, but there are negative sides of technology and social medias.
The negative affect of technologies and social medias is that is, like Dr. Turkle said, "We are getting used to a new way of being alone together". Faces are now behind screens, heads are lowered on the street, and people across the dinner table are typing to communicate. There have been reports about car accidents because the person was not paying attention to the traffic light. This is all negative sides of technologies.
Another problem with social medias and the internet is that the user does not know who is behind the other screen. This leads to fraud and tricks, which we can sometimes see on the news about people's bank account lossing money. Sometimes you could think that you are talking to an eight years old girl but actually, it is a fifty years old man that you are talking to, which is not something people want because there are certain information that you can tell a eight years old child but not a fifty years old man.
The third problem with social medias and internet is that looking at the computer screen for too long is not good for people's eye sight.
Even though the positive side of technologies, internet, and social medias are very clear, the negative sides are also obvious. People who are in the same room are not looking up, people are lossing money from their bank account, which is supposed to be safe, and people's eye sight is getting worst.
4. 以time and menny為題的英語作文
8 Useful Time Saving Tips for the Workplace Time Saving
We spend most of our life at work; well most people do apart from chavvy socialites! So it』s important to make the most of that time. Here are some tips to save you time when at work!
Do Less – My fave tip for sure! Do fewer things but focus on the important things first. Make a list of your tasks and order them by which tasks must be done today. Do these first and then you will manage your time better rather than trying to juggle everything!
Cancel Meetings – Most of the time meetings can be a waste of time. Sometimes they are important. Choose to only go to the meetings that affect your role and that are important. Ask your manager if you need to go. This can save you time and allow you to focus on getting the job done
Avoid Conference calls – Similar to meetings, conference calls can be a pain especially when there may be lots of people at different levels on the call all piping up at the same time. If you have to join the Conf call and feel like you are not adding value, make your voice heard, ask if you are needed on the call at that time and maybe join later if required.
Don』t be a Yes Person – People may come round to your desk, or phone you and ask you to do something for them. They are the smart ones who are delegating someone else to either help them or do the work for them! Learn to say no from time to time. If you are too busy, say so as people will understand!
Delegate workload – As I mentioned above, these are smart people or managers who learn to delegate work to other people saving them time to focus on the priority work they need to do. Try delegating some work you know your colleagues can do. Let someone else be responsible allowing you time to focus on that specific task or project!
Setup Email alerts and filters – Your inbox could be hammered with hundreds of e-mails everyday making it hard and time consuming every morning going through them. Setup some alerts for important things and filters to put general stuff into specific folders and go through those at your leisure. This will mean you can focus on only reading the important messages and getting on with the job in hand.
Switch off any distractions – Keep getting text messages from your mates, pinged on IM etc. Switch them off when you are busy and only view your Facebook page or twitter updates in your spare time such as your lunch break!
Have a clear desk – a Clutter free environment will help you find things quicker. It』s that simple.

A social network is a social structure made up of indivials called "nodes", which are tied by one or more specific types of interdependency, such as friendship, kinship, common interest, financial exchange, dislike, sexual relationships, or relationships of beliefs, knowledge or prestige.
Social Networks are groups of people who share interests and who interact in a variety of ways via software on websites. These include file-sharing, chatting, messaging, exchanging photos/video etc. Social network sites are usually free to join. Include Myspace,Facebook,Bebo,Orkut,LinkedIn and so on.
We define social network sites as web-based services that allow indivials to construct a public or semi-public profile within a bounded system, articulate a list of other users with whom they share a connection, and view and traverse their list of connections and those made by others within the system. The nature and nomenclature of these connections may vary from site to site.
The Importance of Social Networking:Social networking can help a business gain contacts, clients, and increased public awareness.Even entrepreneurs who run small businesses from their homes can take advantage of this resource to set up a global presence.
To make the most of social networking, it's important to fully understand the concept of social networking and how it can be applied in ways that will help you grow your business.
Social networking is making its mark in history these days. In fact, it is progressing so fast, it is leaving the news media in the st. Everyday people are reporting news faster than a whole news team.

They'd like to be the best in the games instead of in hard-working.In my own point,I think Internet has more advantages than disadvantages.People should make the most use of it so that it can been useful not harmful
Nowadays, with the rapid development of IT, networks enclose our life almost thoroughly. One can reconnect with old schoolmates, either via Renrennet, Friendster or Facebook. One can chat with friends, through Tianyanwang, Mop or Twitter.
So what about meeting new friends? To meet this demand, recently many Chinese social networking sites come into being. Social networking sites have began to influence our life in a good variety of ways. To begin with, social networking sites provide us with daily life topics. The most mbfounding tidbits of gossip and entertainment news are actually figments from the virtual world. It makes a most trendy person be always in the know.
Secondly, social networking sites promote ways of social dating. Those who are busy can now extend contacts outside their relatively small friend circles. What calls for special attention, however, is that social networking sites bring temptation and inlgence at the same time.
Obviously if we ignore the problem, chances are good that time will be idled away. Only if we have a good control of ourselves, can we appreciate social networking sites both physically and psychologically.
"I've sent my résumé to over 150 companies but I'm not getting any bites," complaineda job hunter. "How many more jobs should I apply to in order to generate some interest?"
"我把簡歷發給了150多家公司,但是沒有得到任何面試機會,」一個找工作的人抱怨道。「我還得申請多少份工作才會有公司對我感興趣呀?」
Some people treat job hunting as a numbers game. They hope that by applying to enough companies, sooner or later they will find success. While there is no one magic number of how many places a jobsearcher need apply, you shouldn't for a moment believe that applying to everything in sight is a winning strategy for career progression. Moreover, being unprepared for success might also be risky.
Imagine getting this call: "Hi Joe.This is Jane from ABC Corp. I'm responding to the résumé you submitted to us.Thanks so much for your interest. Can you tell me why this job appeals to you?"
Gulp. Joe's chances could be doomed from the get-go if he can't quickly summon to mind a better answer than: "Well… I applied to lots of jobs. Remind me which company you're calling from, and tell me about the job. Then I'll be able to explain it to you."
Already, Joe has blown his chance to show that he actually cares about this particular opportunity. Worse, he cemented in the mind of the interviewer that he is submittingfrivolous applications out of desperation and likely isn't a serious candidate.
To be fair, you can't be expected to put in hours researching the details of every company before submitting an application. Nonetheless, it is important to have a clear sense of why you're interested in every company to which you apply, and what in your background should make that particular company interested in you.
If you want to make a hit, then take the time to understand the basics of your target companies' employment brand. Be prepared to tap into their carefully crafted reputation from your first conversation and all the way through the hiring process.
Here are five possible answers to the"why work here" question. Pick and choose from them, and expand with the facts of your particular situation. Thereby, you candemonstrate that you've done your research, your interest is real and your candidacy makes sense:
這里給出了「為什麼想在這里工作」這一問題的五種回答方式。從中挑選一個,用自己的情況加以擴充。由此,你可以證明,你已經做過功課,你真的對這份工作感興趣,你的申請是有意義的:
1. "I've known several colleagues over the years that have worked at your company, and they have all said great things."
2. "I was excited to see on your website that you feature employees talking about how great it is to work for your company. These days so many people seem to hate where they work for one reason or another. It's wonderful to see that your employees are proud to talk about how much they love their jobs."
3. "Your company's Facebook page is really engaging. I love how you [fill in the blank]."
我喜歡你們的_______."
4. "I'm connected on LinkedIn to many people who work at your company. When I reviewed their profiles, I saw that we all shared some things in common. [You might reference similar accomplishments, prior employers, colleges, etc.] It struck me that this is the kind of place where I can fit in and excel, so I was thrilled to see you have this opening."
4."我和貴公司的很多人在LinkedIn上都有聯系。當我看他們的個人資料時,我發現我們都有共同之處。【你可以說一下類似的成就、之前的僱主、大學等】這份工作打動我的地方在於,我能適應並能勝任這份工作,所以當我發現你們招聘這一職位時我很興奮。」
5. "Your company is known for making great procts that help people do X. But on top of that, I know of your company's leadership role in our community through your support of X, Y and Z events or causes. Your procts and philanthropy show you to be a company that cares about both the bottom line and giving back to society."
Of course, to be in a position to make any of these kinds of statements you need to do a bit of work. Check out the company's own website and Facebook page to see what it does in the community. Follow it on LinkedIn, and do a search for people in your network who have experience working there. Then, look at several of their indivial profiles to determine what you have in common with them. Search for the company in the news to see if it is mentioned for something with which you can identify.
You don't need to know every detail at the very beginning of the search, but you should know enough to justify a genuine belief in your own mind that there is a basis for you considering this company, and for that company to consider you.
When you go about things this way, you won't be able to apply to anything close to 150 jobs simultaneously. But the quality of your thoughtful and purposeful applications will proce a more focused target group of opportunities that can move your search forward. When you present a compelling answer to the "why are you interested in our company" question, you will be well on your way to establishing the basis for being seriously considered for a job that will advance your career at a company you respect and admire.
Happy hunting!
