Greening Your Consumption Habits: A Simple Guide
We are all going to continue to buy stuff. I am not one of those environmentalists that think everyone should sit at home and just read a used book and watch the paint slowly yellow; it』s just not in my nature to be like that. Regardless of what happens around us, we still need to live – we still want to listen to new music, read a new book, get some new clothes. We still want to turn on a light bulb at night or take a hot shower…and I don』t begrudge anyone for doing so. Do you think I want to live in a hovel while contemplating where my next meal is coming from? No way! But there are very simple things we can do, and while I have talked about general steps one can take to be more green, what happens when it is time to go shopping? How can you reconcile your desire for consuming with your desire to be green? Hopefully a few of these will help you balance that equation.
When buying music, downloads are best. There is no plastic shrink-wrap, no plastic CD case, no paper inserts, and no shipping costs. I know some people like to listen to CD』s in the car, but if you have a portable music player (like an iPod), you can usually get a plug to adapt your car stereo so you can listen to all your music.
Buy in bulk. I am not talking about buying things in bulk just for the sake of buying in bulk; not everyone needs to shop at Costco for their family. But buying things like cereal, granola, cookies, and candies in bulk from the store saves a lot of packaging. Think of the last time you opened a box of cereal – that paper and plastic box is half empty by the time you get it. You can even bring your own containers to some stores, just have the clerk weigh it first to determine the tare.
Building on 「buy in bulk」, bring your own container. While this pertains to your shopping bags as well, I am mentioning this specifically for buying food from a hot or cold bar in a store. For example, Whole Foods has a wonderful hot bar – but has plastic and paper containers to bring the food home in. My wife asked if she could re-use the plastic containers, and they said yes. So just be sure to wash it out and bring it back next time!
Buy it used and/or trade for it. This can pertain to clothes, garden tools, snowblowers, baby supplies, etc. When I was growing up, a few of my neighbors shared a snowblower. They all went in on the price, and the one person with the most space to store it got to use it first. But as soon as they were done, it went from house to house. Not only did it save each family money, but it meant that 2 or 3 more snowblowers did not make their way into someone』s garage.
When you can, buy less. That is the single most important aspect of trying to green your consumption habits, because if you are not buying anything, you are not having an impact on anything. The average American family now has a 3,000 square foot house. Do they need it? Probably not. Buying for the sake of buying not only doesn』t make financial sense; it doesn』t make green sense
② 求一篇關於大學生消費觀的英語作文
I think it is necessary for a university student to have a correct idea of consumption.
First, according to our own needs, but also to suit our needs.
Second, consumption should be independent, not to repeat word for word what others say, do not follow the crowd, what head.
Third, consumption should be coordinated, not only heavy material consumption and ignore the spiritual consumption.
Fourth, consumer spending should be with their income to adapt and moderate consumption.
At last ,we need to avoid the blindness and rational consumption.
If we do that, we will have a correct view of consumption.
③ 關於如何合理消費的初中英語作文
Around the compus, we can commonly see some college students wear branded clothes, using the most advanced appliances such as Ipod, Iphone and Ipad. In spite of where the money comes from, I absolutely oppose the view that college students consume luxuries. As far as I am concerned, we should advocate rational consumption among college students. As follows, I will share some suggestions.
Above all, college students should have access to earning pocket money. This is a priority. Most college students, who have already asked their parents to pay their fee, should take responsibility to afford their daily consumption, let alone luxurious consumption.
In addition, it is necessity, rather than luxury, that counts. Seeing other students buying luxiry, some students are jealous and would like to buy one themselves. This is what we call irrational consumption.
Last but not least, keep a balance table each month. If you have fancy dinner this week, then you are supposed to cut down the cost next week. Also, you can set up some bonus plan for yourself. If you spend less than, say, 500 yuan per month, then you can allow yourself a 200 yuan luxury consumption next week. The amount varies as to how much you earn and how much you have.
In a word, it is beneficial to carry rational consumption among college students.

As the result shows, among the thirty students taking part in the survey, most of them often buy snacks; about a half spend their pocket money on books, and a few save some of it. However, things on me are quite different. I usually spend most of the money buying good and ecational books which I think make me more knowledgeable. Only a small part is spent on snacks as most of the snacks are in fact unhealthy for us. And I save the rest against a rainy day. It is true that we have more and more pocket money now. MAKE A BUDGET AND STICK TO IT:
Planning in advance is the key to success. If you make a list of your expenses at the beginning of the month, you will know exactly where you stand financially. This estimation can be very helpful when it comes to spending on entertainment because you will know your limit. Following a plan will also ensure that you do not have to compromise on the essential things like books and stationary because of overspending.
PRIORITIZE:
Prioritizing is very important when it comes to spending money wisely. Priorities are always on the basis of 『needs』 and 『wants』 so the first step is to be able to distinguish clearly between the two. Any expense related to your course is a necessity, a 『need』 and should not be avoided or delayed.
LOOK FOR THEATRES THAT GIVE A STUDENT DISCOUNT:
Being a student and using money wisely is not synonymous with a boring life. It just means that you should consider the alternatives before you spend on something. A lot of theatres in and around the campus give student discounts. In fact some of the theatres are really affordable and they cater especially to students. Look for such an option if you want to watch a movie in a theatre.
LOOK AROUND THE CAMPUS TO FIND AFFORDABLE ENTERTAINMENT OPTIONS:
If movies don』t interest you that much, every campus offers other entertainment options like concerts and festival which are very affordable. In fact, some of them don』t even charge any entry fee so be on the lookout for something like that.
⑤ 關於合作消費的英語作文
Now with the development of economy and science technology ,it is easy for us to shop on the Internet. I think there are advantages and disadvantages. First ,it is true that we don't need to go out to shop and it saves more time for us .Second on the Internet we can look through more goods in a short time than we do in the shop. It is convenient for the people who are always busy with their work. On the other hand , the consumers are easy to be cheated on the net because we can only see the goods we want to buy instead of touching them and in that case we can't judge the quality of the goods .So I think we should be more careful when we shop on the Internet.l

Impulse buying is any purchase that isn』 planned. Deviating from a planned shopping list is an impulse purchase.Impulse buying can destroy a budget and create unnecessary debt. Learn what impulse buying is and how to avoid it.There are several ways to rece impulse buying at the grocery store. Making a list and not deviating from it is the simplest. Keep a running list in the kitchen of items you run out of. Then, check the weekly advertisement from your favorite grocery store – are there any items on sale that you normally buy?
