(一)用「寫長法」訓練
「寫長法」，即：針對學生學外語多年而不會運用的困境，通過大量的語言輸入，以設計激發學生表達真情實意和寫作沖動的任務為教學目的，在一定的學習階段，順應外語學習的規律，通過調節作文長度要求，逐步加大寫作量，促使學生沖破外語學習的極限，由此增強學習成就感，提高自信心，將外語知識加速打造成外語運用能力。該方法強調「從短到長」、「集腋成裘」，自然而然地我們就可以寫出長句子、長文章。從中我們可以看出語言輸入的重要性。
(二)重視日常積累
多積累一些精彩的詞、短語和句子，是提高英文寫作能力的重要內容。積累一個詞，並不是只記住表面的意思，而是要深入了解其使用語境，弄清其引申的含義。比如，The picture fired my imagination。這句話中的fire一詞，原本是個名詞，但這里可以接賓語，很明顯做動詞。根據其基本意思，我們可以猜出此處的意思是「點燃、燃起」，意思相當於stimulate。我們從這一點可以看出fire比stimulate要好很多，因為fire一詞可以在讀者心中引發無窮的想像，非常形象。

(三)多用過渡詞語
作文中要多運用過渡詞，增加句子的邏輯性。恰當運用過渡詞可以使文章結構緊湊，過渡自然，避免脫節現象。時間上的銜接詞有「then、as time goesby、day after day、graally、finally」等，表因果關系的有「as a result、because of、thanks to」等。
(四)背誦經典範文
