Most of my friends live in the city, yet they always go into raptures at the mere mention of the country. Though they extol the virtues of the peaceful life, only one of them has ever gone to live in the country and he was back in town within six months. Even he still lives under the illusion that country life is somehow superior to town life. He is forever talking about the friendly people, the clean atmosphere, the closeness to nature and the gentle pace of living. Nothing can be compared, he maintains, with the first cockcrow, the twittering of birds at dawn, the sight of the rising sun glinting on the trees and pastures. This idyllic pastoral scene is only part of the picture. My friend fails to mention the long and friendless winter evenings in front of the TV ---- virtually the only form of entertainment. He says nothing about the poor selection of goods in the shops, or about those unfortunate people who have to travel from the country to the city every day to get to work. Why people are prepared to tolerate a four-hour journey each day for the bious privilege of living in the country is beyond me. They could be saved so much misery and expense if they chose to live in the city where they rightly belong.
If you can do without the few pastoral pleasures of the country, you will find the city can provide you with the best that life can offer. You never have to travel miles to see your friends. They invariably live nearby and are always available for an informal chat or an evening's entertainment. Some of my acquaintances in the country come up to town once or twice a year to visit the theatre as a special treat. For them this is a major operation which involves considerable planning. As the play draws to its close, they wonder whether they will ever catch that last train home. The city dweller never experiences anxieties of this sort. The latest exhibitions, films, or plays are only a short bus ride away. Shopping, too, is always a pleasure. There is so much variety that you never have to make do with second best. Country people run wild when they go shopping in the city and stagger home loaded with as many of the exotic items as they can carry. Nor is the city without its moments of beauty. There is something comforting about the warm glow shed by advertisements on cold wet winter nights. Few things could be more impressive than the peace that descends on deserted city streets at weekends when the thousands that travel to work every day are tucked away in their homes in the country. It has always been a mystery to me why city dwellers, who appreciate all these things, obstinately pretend that they would prefer to live in the country.
It is really hard to say which is better than the other, city life or rural life, because each has its merits and shortcomings.
Living in a city, people have certain advantages. First, people enjoy various entertainments, both foreign and domestic. Second, there are more cultural activities in a city. Third, city dwellers gain access to better information service and ecational facilities. However, problems exist. The overcrowded population, traffic jam, housing problem, instrial pollution and other issues may result in depression, nervousness and diseases. laving in the country, people can enjoy living in pure nature. They lead a simple and trouble free life. But rural life may not be that perfect. People usually lack cultural activities. They are relatively ill informed. Things go fairly slowly there. And people miss some golden opportunities of making a fortune. The chances of their children being admitted to colleges are slim.
Obviously, whatever life they lead, people can never feel perfectly satisfied, for conveniences and inconveniences always coexist. People wish that they could enjoy the pleasures of both lives. With the rapid economic development, nowadays city dwellers can relax themselves in the country ring vacation; and country people have chance to experience city lifestyle when they come to cities.
Some people enioY the convenience of the city. First, there are many public places of entertainment, such as parks, cinemas, exhibitions, nightclubs and so on. And there ale also quite a number of schools, universities and scientific research institutions that provide good ecation. Second, the public transportation facilities are very convenient. Taxicabs, buses, trolley buses, and subways can quickly take people anyplace in the city. And third, shops and department stores are well stocked with goods of all kinds, high in quality and low in price.
Some people like the rural scenery in the country. First, it is close to the outdoors, the air being fresh and pure. Second, it is free from the noise and air pollution and traffic jams of the city. Third, gardening and fishing here are pleasant pastimes.
But the city and country have their own disadvantages. For examples, the pollution and traffic jam have become more and more serious in the city, while in the country life is relatively backward. Comparing this with that. however. I prefer to live in the city.
他給的理由是可以catch the latest movie還能join clubs with friends,還說了下Neon lights are beautiful.
另外city life好處常用的還有convenient,設備齊全(a variaty of public equipments)之類的.當然city life不好的地方就是noice pollution和too much pressure.另外當下房價(price of the apartments)太高,停車位難找(limit parking lots)之類的也是很困擾人(annoying).
不利的地方就是not convenient,還有就是新概念那篇說的看個新電影也不行(catch the latest movie),也找不到朋友泡吧(have fun at bars).另外生病也沒有好醫院(no advanced equipments in hospital)之類的
gap of living has more and more distance between city and
countryside. What is the reason in your country? How can rece this kind of
difference?
The living standard gap between city and countryside is bigger and
bigger. In my country, dozens of rural young people have been absorbed high salary
and comfortable living in the big city.So more and more young people select to
work in the city and abandon farming for a better future. In this essay we will
examine the problem of the increasing living standard gap between city and
countryside and the solutions, such as improving ecational level and economy in
the country.
The main reason is the different standard of ecation between the city and
the countryside.Because of poverty, dozens of country students lose the chance to
study at school. So country people's ecational level is too low to find jobs of
high salary.Commonly high salary requires high ecational level.Manual labor
means low salary:therefore, the country people will be poorer. It will become a
bad circle.
Another reason is that economic development is not balanced between city
and countryside.Such as both Traffic and transport are not
convenient, information to be received slowly and instrial institution is too
simple, all of them are the direct and primary reasons to ince this kind of
problem that the growth of countryside's economy less than city's.
As result of the gap in living standard between the city and the
countryside, the outlook is somewhat grim.People already realize this problem
exists and are trying to solve it.
For one solution, developed cities should spend plenty of money on building
country schools and helping poor country family that they have the ability to
support their children to go to school.
The second solution is uniting city and based on country conditions of
nature to progress local economy specially. In most of the countryside, plenty of
natural resources aren't utilized and developed. On the contrary, developing
cities need lots of resources. They can help each other.
The important thing is that developed cities should provide help to change
the country,in order to rece the living standard gap between the city and the
countryside.
There are many difference between the living conditions of people in a city and in the countryside. Life in the countryside seems to offer much closeness to Nature and among people, but to me, living in a city is obviously more colorful and fulfilling.
In a city, one can usually find many interesting places such as museums and parks to go and see, while in the countryside the places one can go to are limited. Another major differences are that of going to school. A city usually has many good schools, where teachers are of high level and teaching facilities are advanced, which in turn can train high-level students.
Many years ago, before Chinagot developed, people dreamed to live in the city, because the life in city was colorful, everyone was chasing for the prosperity, the attracting thing for the city life lies in that people will find the chance to get succeed. Now,Chinahas been developing, the citizens start to chase the country life, they like the quiet environment, the air is much fresh. City life and country life, which is better? City life is convenient, people can buy what they want, while the country life is quiet and peaceful, I think the old prefer the country life, the young prefer the city life. People in different stage will chase for different life, that makes the difference.
Many people appreciate the conveniences of the city. People in the city can seefilms, visit exhibitions and watch games every day if they like to. Furthermore, if they want to Become scholars, scientists or artists, they can find what they need in the city: libraries, colleges, museums, and so on. The last But not the least important thing I'd like to say is that they can get to know as many people as they want in the city. But some other people are attracted by the beauty of the country. First, if one is in the country he feels he is closer to nature: small streams, high mountains, fresh air, green grass and so on, all this makes people happy and stirs up the love of life. Second, in the country, people seem to have more freedom. They can sing high in the field, ride horses along a brook and do some interesting farm work. Of course, both the city and the country have their disadvantnges. As for the city, there is pollution, noise and heavy traffic. And as far as the country is concerned, its inefficient transportation, delayed news always make people feel isolated. Compared with cities, the country is relatively backward, but nothing can be com pared with the clean atmosphere and the gentle pace of living. Living in the country is very good for your health. With the deveJopment of economy, it is a trend that people will migrate from the city to the country.
