stand作動詞,通常表示「站立」和「忍受」之意。那麼,怎樣區分這兩種不同的含義呢?請看下面的例句:
① My sister』s baby can』t stand.
我姐姐的小孩還不會站呢。
② Our teacher is standing outside the classroom.

你認為肥皂劇怎麼樣?

從上面例句中我們可以看出,stand作「站立」講時,是不及物動詞,後面不接所支配的對象,但可接表地點或位置的詞彙;作「忍受」講時是及物動詞,後面要接支配的對象(即賓語),它常用於否定句和疑問句中。
mind
mind作動詞,意為「在乎;介意」,其後通常接名詞,動名詞(即動詞的-ing形式)或句子作賓語。如:
① I don』t mind hard work.
我不在意艱辛的工作。
② — Would you mind my opening the window?
你介意我打開窗子嗎?
— Certainly not.
當然不。
③ I don』t mind what young people think of me.
我不在意年輕人是怎麼看我的。
agree
agree是動詞,意為「同意;贊同」,可單獨使用或跟介詞、不定式或從句等。如:
① I asked him to come with me and he agreed.
我讓他跟我來,他同意了。
② He doesn』t agree with me.
他不同意我的意見。
③ I find it difficult to agree to your terms.
我發現很難同意你們的條款。
④ We agreed to leave at once.
我們同意立刻離開。
⑤ I agree that you watch TV for an hour every day.

[重點釋疑] 本句還可以說「How do you like soap operas?」,動詞片語think of在此處意為「對……有某種看法」,等同於think about。如:

In fact, I don』t like sitcoms. 事實上,我不喜歡情景喜劇。
[重點釋疑] in fact是固定片語,意為「實際上;事實上」,常用於句首。如:

3. We』re talking to Alan, a thirteen-year-old boy.

[重點釋疑] a thirteen-year-old boy意為「一個13歲的男孩」,注意其中的year是單數形式,這個短語還可以說成a boy of 13 years old。如:

[重點釋疑] 本句的主語是動名詞,即動詞-ing形式。在英語中,如果動詞作主語,要用它的動名詞形式。如:
① Watching TV too much is bad for your eyes.
看電視太多對你的眼睛有害。
② Eating more fruit and vegetables is good for your health.
多吃水果和蔬菜有益於你的健康。
And the coolest thing was the belt. 最酷的物品是皮帶。
[重點釋疑] the coolest是形容詞的最高級,意為「最酷的」。如:

『伍』 介詞+which+to do 結構 的用法
在人教版高三英語課本中有這樣一句話," Tomorrow would be Christmas Day, and Della had only $1.87 with which to buy Jim, her husband, a present." 句中"...with which to buy ..."究竟是一種什麼結構?在我們的備課活動中,有的教師說是定語從句的省略,有的教師又否定,但有說不出是什麼結構.
對於這個問題,首先我們不妨先來看一段選自由英國倫敦Hazell Watson and Viney LTD Aylesbury,Bucks所出版, 由C.E.Eckersley編寫的教材"Essential English for Foreign Students" 第三冊十七課第124到125頁,"Rules of Grammar" again一文中有這樣一段話:It's about Sir Winston Churchil when he was Prime Minister of England. He had written out an important speech that he was going to give, and he handed it to one of his secretaries to type. When he got it back he found that the secretary had gone through the speech and changed all the sentences that ended with a preposition. Sir Winston marked all these alterations in red ink and wrote underneath: This is the sort of English up with which I will not put."
在本文中另外一段對話: Professor Grey: Oh! Priestley,you're the very man I wanted to see... About that book of yours..you know, Spoken English or something...Well, one of the mistakes may be a misprint.But the other can't be. You've put a preposition at the end of a sentence.
從這兩句話可以推斷,在早期的英語中,那些認為有教養的英國人認為,我們不應該用一個介詞來結束一個句子.而應該將其介詞放在句中.
所以,在我的英語教學中,我將這種現象取名為"藏句尾介詞法". 它不是一個定語從句的省略,所以,類似in which不能象定語從句一樣換成where或when等關系副詞.隨著語言的發展,人們已經習慣於將介詞來結束一個句子,比如: That's a fine person to learn English from. And both you and your publishers will be laughed at.等.
但課文中的這句話Della had only $1.87 with which to buy Jim, her husband, a present.我們當然可以表達為: Della had only $1.87 to buy Jim, her husband, a present with.但是介詞with與其賓語 $1.87就顯得離得太遠,不太符合語句緊湊原則,所以作者採用了舊式英語中"藏句尾介詞法",已 達到語句緊湊的目的.
